So I've got my POP setup and everything, get and receive fine.

But when I delete something from my inbox on my PPC, it also deletes it from the server.

How do I disable this? I can't find the option for the life of me, and I dont' think i've ever used a mail client that didn't have this common option.

I believe there isn't an option, shockingly. 8O

Workarounds include: a) not deleting messages on the Pocket PC (basically, "deletes" get synced back); b) using a different client (e.g., nPOP (http://www.nakka.com/soft/npop/index_eng.html) or WebIS Mail (http://www.pocketinformant.com/products_info.php?p_id=mail&dir=wm&)).

do you know if nPop works w/ WM5?

I kinda regret returning the TX... but this issue isn't as bad as HP telling me to not use my SD card until they release a ROM update that fixes teh power on problem w/ teh rx1950, a rom update they have no idea when will be out.

EDIT: actually, npop doens't seem to be any good for me.

because on npop, if you del it from the server, it's gone from you PPC. I still want msgs on my PPC that i've deleted from the server.

and i don't relaly feel like paying for a mail client.

this is weak. i think i'm just gonna go back to the TX. lol bestbuy's gonna give me quirky looks for returning, again. but i guess this time i have a real excuse due to the SD-won't turn on ppc-defect.

hmz thats really bad luck man

to do that you gona need a client who download all the messages to your handheld and leave copyes athe server like the desktop pop clients do

im prety sure that there are that kind of clints.

eactly. this is actually the first mail client i've encounter on any platform that doesn't have this option. i mean they put in all the advanced options like SSL and Authentication (which i need), but not this simple option that's common to every mail app.

anyway i'm just gonna go return it (if i can, long story short, but i paid in CC, and i lost my CC, so i had to cancel the CC, so hopefully they can give me money back instead of store credit).

i'll either wait for some ROM updates to fix all these issues wm5 has, or go back to palm, but i really wasn't fond of the tx either, but at least it's mail client was both fast and had the necessary options... so meh.

edit: i'm also pretty sure that there are third party clients that will have this common option, it's just i hate paying for software when teh PPC is supposed to have. It's just that one feature.

also, the rx1955 is sloowwww and lacks ram. another third party will just take up more space and resources most likely.

I think the motivation here is that the Messaging applet that comes with Windows Mobile follows the "sync" metaphor. It supports four protocols: Exchange, IMAP, Hotmail, and POP3. Of the four, three of them are server-side by definition, so I think they're "emulating" that functionality with POP3. In fact, the future of messaging seems to be server side, either via IMAP, HTTP, or MAPI.

I know the MVPs have brought up this issue several times over the years, but they haven't decided to change it. <shrug> Due to the availability of third-party applications, I'd like to think this is not the deal-breaker, and that the other problems you're having are more significant. In any case, best of luck with your TX.

It's the best to create a local folder for to-be-hidden mail on the PDA and just moving the mail there. You may want to read http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=274&more=1 on this.
