These apps are generally going to make the process a one step conversion, where often with other programs you will need to take additional steps to get the file encoded.

I haven't used this one in awhile, but I believe it will encode into a Windows Media file, which is going to usually be smaller in size than a divx file, and much easier for end users with not as much tech expertise to play on their devices.

I myself will use FairUse Wizard 2 to copy my dvd's then copy that divx file to a regular CD which will play in my Phillips DVD player...I would much rather have the kids destroy a cd instead of the original DVD.

And if I want to play on my PPC, I will then use Windows Media Encoder to transcode the divx file into a smaller windows media file.

This takes quite allot of time to run on my older desktop, but I usually just set it to run right before I go to bed, and it's done in the morning.

Programs like DVD to Pocket PC 3.0, keep the process simple, and most likely faster than my methods.

If you use OS X, just go get handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/); it's a free, GPLd, one step DVD > DIVX ripper/converter. Of course, doing so will make you you much more of a communist (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=44497) than those that run DVDshrink.

I read that the new version will encode a movie in about 45 minutes....that beats my encode methods by about 8 hours. Of course my method is about $32.00 cheaper...

I have for years used the multistep 8 - 12 hour process.

How does this one compare to PPC Mag's 2005 Winner: PocketDVD2.0? (note that version 3.0 of PDVD aka DVD Catalyst was released after PPC Mag Awards deadline).

It's also half the price of DVD to PPC 3.0 and has a full feature/full length conversion 5 days trial (not limited to a few minutes like the others).

Seems a much better program.

Anyone knows the conversion speed of DVD Catalyst to compare?
