A large capacity, high speed card at a reasonable price. I wonder if they throw a MiniSD to SD converter into the bargain? A fair number of newer Pocket PCs use MiniSD slots, so how are those of you with them dealing with the middle member of the SD family? Are you juggling with converters or do you 'set it and forget it', i.e. never really take the MiniSD card out of your device?

Agreed. I really am ambivalent about the proliferation of smaller formats, but at least this on is in the SD family. With the capacity, speed and price it's almost temptig......

Hi saru83, it's kinda off-topic but this is what I think:

I like thumb-boards and SMS a lot! but in my case it's pretty simple... I tend to use and abuse my devices A LOT! so I rather stay away from moving parts that will eventually fail (meaning the slide-out thumb-board).

I know some ppl say that by the time it fails, you will be moving to a new device... That could be true, but at least I like to keep my devices in the best shape possible (despite the abuse) so I can sell them better.

And also, the Atom will have a much better screen (color depth) and some other features (like the media center) and (important for me) the FM Radio.

So, in conclussion... I rahter pay $200 (or so) more for the slimmer featured-packed Atom.

Best regards,
SNayar

I still use the adapter periodically, for massive file transfers. I think with these things getting higher capacities and the need for fast large data transfers mandates having the adapter.

When're we going to see 2GB MiniSD cards from the online store?

Also, what's the MMC equivalent of MiniSD?

Of course, I haven't seen any evidence that anyone other than O2 will be selling the Atom. The FCC approval is encouraging but not quite enough. Granted, I don't think it makes much sense for Quanta to only provide this device to one carrier. Unless O2 commissioned the development of the device in the first place and got an exclusive contract.

Forget the MiniSD, how about the MicroSD (was TransFlash)?

I plan my next phone to be the next gen Motorola Razr (the V3i -- yes I'm done with my current PDA2k's and JAM). It's coming December and will use MicroSD and has built-in iTunes music player (like the Rokr). So you see, MicroSD gadgets are also here already.

So I'm thinking about skipping the MiniSD altogether and jumping from SD to MicroSD. Pair it up with the Acer n311, sweet... :)

Hmmmm. :? CF, SD, MiniSD and MicroSD. That's a fair few converters to carry around. I still don't see the point of MicroSD. MiniSD seems small enough. :grumble:

Still, at least it's keeping it in the familiy, so to speak.

Problem is, I still haven't been able to confirm that a MicroSD-to-MiniSD (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43392) adapter exists (or even possible). Without that, a MicroSD card is useless for devices with a MiniSD slot...

8O I had though I had read that there was such a beast. If not, how on earth can they call it part of the SD family? (I know, transflash, marketing etc. but still......)

I know, but they don't fit in many of the newer devices as they don't have SD slots. :|

It'd fit just fine in my Jasjar. Now where can I buy one, and can I afford it? ;)

Does anyone know what the upper-limit capacity is for miniSD? I have a 2GB SD card and could still use some more room and speed.

The miniSD/SD capacity has been the only real issue why I'm choosing the E-TEN M600 over the O2 ATOM. But if capacity is moot, then they become much more comparable. I REALLY want EDGE which the E-TEN M600 doesn't support, but has SD....
