Is there a safemode for WM5? I asked Vito Tech is Sound Explorer WM5 compatible and they said yes. I loaded it up and now after soft reset it goes to the today screen for about 3 seconds and then to the sync screen turning on bluetooth and FREEZES. It is not compatible. Called Dell and they said hard reset the thing. Boy, I don't want to do that. Any help would be appreciated.

I am not aware of any inherent access to safe mode but SPB Pocket Plus v3.0 has a safe mode option and if you search these forums, another program is available (freeware, I think). I am assuming you do not have SPB Pocket Plus on your device. Best wishes.

I believe that it is already too late to recover the error. There is no safemode built into the operating system. However, some third-party application, such as SPB PL and Safemode, lets you disable all start up services and programs. However, you HAVE to have them preinstalled. Also, I believe SafeMode is not compatible with WM 5.

Just curious, do you have any task manager on your PPC, such as Wisbar, PHM taskmanager, or iTaskMrg? If so, you can try to quit the operation before it freezes up your PPC. Then, delete the program shortcut in the startup.

From your signature, I assume that you have tons of softwares installed? I was in the same situation as you are in now many times. However, I finally learned my lesson and backup my Pocket PC everyday. Also, I installed safemode to prevent error like yours.

Good luck!

On one of my past PPCs, if you held down a certain button on startup, it would boot no 3rd party programs (I believe it was my H3630 on PPC2000)

Couldn't hurt to going through soft-resetting with each button held down.

I wouldn't try that without documentation - on some PPCs soft reset with one or two buttons down is for a hard reset.

pivaska's X51v doesn't have such a feature, and there isn't a safe mode option enabled in the OS by default. Following on from the aforementioned suggestions, Spb Pocket Plus v3.x's Safe Mode feature is your best bet, but you'd need to have it pre-installed first.

hishamh's right. That will prompt a hard-reset sooner or later.
