Windows Mobile 5 devices come with Pocket MSN which wraps up MSN Messenger, Hotmail and a few other things in one interface. The problem is launching MSN Messenger is now a multitap process. If you want your favorite green snowman icon back so a single tap runs Messenger, follow these simple steps.

• Start File Explorer on the device.
• Navigate to the \Windows folder.
• Scroll down and find instmsgr.
• Tap-and-hold on instmsgr and select Copy from the menu.
• Navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
• Select Menu|Edit|Paste Shortcut
• Tap-and-hold on the newly created shortcut and select Rename
• Name it MSN Messenger or whatever you want

This tip came from Arne Hess over at the::unwired.

Not sure how it's a multitap process if you leave the MSN Today plugin up, which is how it comes. Since it's on the Today screen, you tap the snowman, which opens messenger, and tap sign in.

In the start menu it is tap start, tap the snowman, which opens messenger, and tap sign in. Seems like one more tap.

Of course if you don't want the unnecessarily big MSN bar on the Today page, I understand.

I did this on my K-JAM 5 days ago :D

I also have a tip on changing both buttons on the bottom of the today screen. Read it somewhere (can't remember), but it would be helpful to your readers.

What registry editor would you use to enable VOICE COMMAND?

Thanks

I have used the free PHM Registry Editor for all my hacks.

Not sure how this relates to Messenger, but if you were making reference to Ed's other article, he commonly uses the built-in registry editor that comes packaged with Resco File Explorer. Otherwise, PHM Registry Editor is a good, and might I add, free alternative.
