Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has experimented with digital camera attachments for PPCs. I've tried looking around, but the selection and quality (viz. megapixels) appear to be poor, especially considering the price.

Cheers,

Jon

Well, it depends. While they're considerably, quality-wise, better than all built-in "cameras" even in recent Windows Mobile PDA's, and MS Portrait also supports most of them (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&title=microsoft_portrait_gphone_and_peer_to_pe), you can't expect astonishing image quality, even at their sometimes very high price.

Therefore, what I recommend is sticking to separate digital cameras unless you really need video conferencing/phoning with Portrait. Models like the Canon Digital Ixus are pretty small, and they (disregarding the chromatic aberration and, in previous models, the bad battery life and the lack of display of remaining battery) deliver excellent image quality for the size. (I also used to recommend (http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14597) the HP R707 because of its very good image quality, good battery life and adaptive lighting. I don't do this any more because I'm having problems with mine – the infamous, plaguing-all-HP-models "Card unreadable" error with my SD cards, with it also having destroyed one of my SD cards as the icing on the cake. Will most probably dump it and get the latest Canon IXUS 750 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonsd550/).)

I also recommend Gerard's thread over at BH (http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=116701) on this the avilable SD/CF cameras; he's a pro in this subject and has also linked a ton of other relevant information.

EDITO: oops, sorry, the Gerard thread can be found here (http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=116701)
