Why, oh, why do they have to ruin this device with awesome specificatons with a 240×240 screen? :( On the Palm 700w, it is, well, acceptable since they have the HW keyboard...<sarcasm> Just turn on the SIP any you have a whoppin' 240×120 screen estate... Let's hope WM5SE will include support for 160×160 screen resolutions </sarcasm>. Serously, they should have put in at least a normal QVGA screen (240×320)...

Reminds me of a Creative Zen, only a lot more functional. 8)

This is the kind of device I would consider for a two device solution (vs converged) Its going to be small and thin. I will use it to replace my 3G phone, and continue to use my VGA Loox PPC as my main PDA. I could also use the 4GB memory via USB Host and view movies over USB on my Loox. Due to the poor resolution its a poor PDA phone, but its a brilliant phone!

What's that at the top center, between the power button & the camera? Is it just the earpiece? It very strongly resembles the biometric fingerprint readers on all the new Tablet PCs...

Y'Know, I could deal with the 240x240 screen as long as I have FOUR GIGS of NAND to play with... Palm's Lifedrive was a good idea, but the only downside was, no phone...

...and it had microdrive instead of NAND, and it had Palm OS on it. Otherwise, it is a really cool device indeed ;)

Don't Panic!

There is such a thing as to small. I don't see this device as having the entertainment potential that a QVGA or VGA Pocket PC has. Just looking at the d-pad I'm sure gaming is not goin to be possible on this device. If that d-pad supports diagonals I'd be very surprised. Probably be nice for solitaire though.

If they had included a landscape QVGA or VGA screen instead of the square screen I think they would have had a truely killer device. That 240 x 240 screen is just 'meh'

Earpiece, reminds me of one on the smt5600.

I think it is a great device - I would love to have that much memory for music, have my phone, have my PIM, and have a fairly decent camera in one device. I think it's really a great combo of an ipod (w/ video) and a phone - not as much a perfect PPC set-up, but still one of a kind in creativity.

480x480 would have been very nice to see on this, otherwise a very cool device.

I like it. 4GB is wow. Are there other plans for a high capacity (4GB +) Pocket PC?

Ack! Tri-band!

Ack! Tri-band!

Tri-band 3G. Not tri-band GSM. There's a HUGE difference. ;)

Though having said that, I don't think "tri-band" is the best term to describe the different 3G standards.

Ya know, no one has really said it: "microSD?!"

It seems like only yesterday, we were complaining about miniSD.

About time someone does something like this.

I think this is great - some designers/marketing people thinking outside the box and getting the PPC platform into some new packages. If the PPC environment can make it into some consumer electronics markets, we all stand to benefit.

And, hey, if you don't like this one, fine. Wish them luck, and maybe the next groundbreaking design will be something for you.

This looks good so as long as it's small -- tiny small. Then I'll use this as my phone.

Otherwise, it's redundant.

Oh, I'll complain about it Darius...

1. It's a hassle to get new memory cards.
2. Additional Cost.
3. Easier to lose
4. SD is small enough.
5. MiniSD is dumb...

Ok.... complaints over.

Except the 4GB flash memory, I didn't see anything related to "cool" here. The buttons layout is terrible. Wasted too much space, and looks weird too. The resolution is also sucks, considering there is enough space for 240*320 LCD.

As a phone, it is very big. Don't fool yourself it is PPC ZEN. The LCD is 2.5inch, the button space is almost as big as the LCD, which means this devices is at least as big as treo 650, if not bigger.

I don't believe it will sell well.

What's cool about it is that it's an obvious pre-emptive response to a Phone/iPod.

All you need is a choice of color (at least black/white), and some killer Xbox 360 connectivity.

And a cheaper, phone-less version to help mainstream penetration.

BAM, hit Apple and Sony with the same stone.
