View Full Version : Any way to connect to PPC with a dead touch screen?

Tried searching and google, came up with nothing.

I've got a toshiba e310 that has 1/2 of the touch screen ribbon cable broken. It doesn't register touches to the screen. Everything else is working fine. I've thought about trying to repair the cable, but it's snapped off to close to the LCD unit for me to get to.

All i want the thing for now is to read a few ebooks and listen to the odd mp3.

The problem i'm having is that after a hard reset / dead battery, i now need to align the screen. Is there any way i can bypass this alignment?

If there isn't a way to bypass, is there a way that i can use activesync to form a partnership, install some remote PPC control program, and get past the alignment steps that way?

i've also got a perfectly fine old casio e125 that would be fine for reading ebooks, but i've lost the damn cradle, and can't find replacements / hotsync cables for them anymore.

Any ideas people?
Thanks in advance!

For the charger for the e125, I'd suggest ebay. I found several in a quick search (http://computers.search.ebay.com/e125_Computers-Networking_W0QQcatrefZC12QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsacatZ58058).

On bypassing the alignment issue, I found a suggestion (http://www.computing.net/pda/wwwboard/forum/1906.html) that might work for you.

thanks for that!

on the work around for the e310, do you know if it's possible to set up an activesync connection even though my PPC wouldn't be set up?

Not sure since I've never tried it, but maybe you can just use the "guest" option. You should still be able to browse the Pocket PC, I think.

It worked!
Thanks a bunch for the link.

For future reference:
1) install active sync
2) connect PPC and computer
3) activesync will recognise and you can choose guest or usual partnership
4) you can then browse your PPC
5) go to windows\startup
6) delete "welcome"
7) soft reset the device
8) it will now boot up without the align screen etc
9) you can then get a program called pen irazu, which uses the keys to act as a mouse, great if your touch screen is dead, like mine!

:D

mkerr, glad you're back in business. My PDA screen just broke. But, I do enough entry via stylus, I don't think it would work to go stylusless for very long

Menneisyys: Is there anything about Pocket PC's you don't know or haven't written on? Keep up the good work!
