Hi, I'm new to the PPC scene and happily new at that. I LOVE my new iPaq! Anywho, I am on a mission to compress my collection of samurai champloo avi movies to smaller files... I just need to know a) the media player on pocketpc plays avi, right? b) if not what does it need to be? wmv? c) if so how can I convert it, on a MAC. I currently do not own a pc, so I need a mac app to compress and/or convert these avi files. Can anyone help?

Much apprechiated.

On a mac, you may need to use the Quicktime program and http://www.flip4mac.com/

Alternatively, you may want to grap the TCPMP player for playing all kinds of video types.

Yes the appropriate player to use on the pocket pc is:

http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about

The built in media player really only handles microsoft video.

If you have quicktime pro you should be able to make .mp4 files that TCPMP will play. (You may have to search a bit for a plug in if you generate aac audio) Otherwise find a mac solution that will generate divx files.

Okay, I got the player you're talking about... But my ppc says its not an application that it supports. Do I need to open the exe app on a PC first? Can someone just send me the actual file that the ppc uses to execute the application? I need it for AIM as well, if you could that would be great!

Yes, you have to install it through your PC. This is actually standard procedure for about 90% of the programs available out there. Make sure your PPC is connected to your PC and activesync is running first. Click on the excutable, and the installer will extract the necessary cab files, and launch the program installer. You will then be given a choice to install in the default installation. For TCPMP, it doesn't really matter - you can install in RAM, File Store, or to an external card, so click yes unless you want to save some RAM and install it elsewhere. The program launcher will then copy the correct cab file to your PPC (it should detect your OS and select the right install file), where it will then be launched on your PPC. The program will then be installed.

tcpmp.arm.cabs.0.66.zip (pocket rar or Total commander can unzip on PPC) else use a MAC app to unzip
http://corecodec.org/frs/?group_id=53&release_id=124#r124

The PC install basically extracts and pushes the cab to your PPC where it is installed.
Caution: PPC registry settings are set to delete a cab after installation.
To prevent that you can http://www.vancouverpocketpc.com/CAB_installation_tweak.html
