I am looking for something for WM2003.2 on an X50V that places running programs along either the top or the bottom toolbar/system tray that is NOT MagicButton. What can do this in this run time environment?

Have you tried ValkSoft True Toolbar? (http://www.valksoft.com/TrueToolbar.html)

PHM tray launch? (http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/PowerToys/#TrayLnch)

Thanks to you both!

A couple more questions. First, any pro/con for one of these over the other? Second, what are the most efficient search arguments to find these sort of things? I try to be self-sufficient, but the search arguments I choose intutitively apparently are intutitive to only me. :(

Just out of interest, why don't you want to use Magic Button? I've used it the last 2 years and been very happy with it, both as a task switcher and program closer.

I've never actually tried PHM - I use iLauncher myself. I just put it up because it's free. As for your second question, try haunting around places like pocketpcfreewares.com ->here (http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com). That's usually my first point of departure when I'm looking for something.

I had tried it awhile back and had some oddities that disappeared when I deinstalled it. In all honesty, I cannot recall just what those oddities were now, so I've reinstalled Magic Button and am retrying it today.

I tried ValkSoft True Toolbar last night for awhile and deinstalled it.

The PHM PocketPC PowerToys is packaged as a bundle of functions and while I could do a selective deinstall, would rather not have to so I have not tried it yet.

There were still some oddities with MagicButton, so I once again deinstalled it.

What I'm using right now is rather low-tech and not very elegant, but it's functional for me.

I set spb Pocket Plus to CLOSE (rather than the minimize that WM does) and I set the record button (bottom button on the left side of the X50V) to the [Mimimize] action supplied with spb Pocket Plus. In this way I can have CLOSE as my normal function and minimize easily when needed (comes in handy when I get to the internet over GPRS via BT to my cell phone).

I may still retry WisBar Advance 2, but it seems to be more than I want or need.

I believe that with SPB you can set it to close the running program, as you said but if you tap and hold the "X" you get the option to minimize.

Yes, I have now trained myself to do just that rather than taking a hardware button for that function.

And I set iLauncher to place icons into the System Tray so that I can easily launch those apps.

I would still like to find something that places icons for those that are running on the top bar but does not interfere with spb Pocket Plus and it's close menu.

I decided that the best way for me to get the running program icons across the top was with MagicButton.

In addition to Spb Pocket Plus, I also have SBSH iLauncher, so I've changed over to using iLauncher for my tabs and MagicButton for the real close and the running icons and deinstalled Spb Pocket Plus.

It saves some space (not having Spb Pocket Plus installed), the SBSH iLauncher tabbed interface is very similar to that provided by Spb Pocket Plus, and SHSH iLauncher also lets me place shortcuts onto the bottom bar.

So far, so good!
