Meritline is selling a 2GB 150x MMC card for $100. It sounds like a good deal if you don't need the security features of SD.

If one of the major disadvantages of MMC vs SD is speed, then wouldn't the 150x speed negate the disadvantage?
Any thoughts?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. SD slots are supposed to be reverse compatible to MMC. Although, if you look around I suspect you could find a similar price for a 2 GB SD card and have no worries.
The truth is, SD is no more secure than MMC or any other memory card. The "Secure" in Secure Digital refers to a long-dead attempt to "secure" digital music against the person using it.

It's a psychological dilemma... having paid for a PDA cost me $375 and getting a card that's a big fraction of the price, such that even a $30 difference seems a lot percentage-wise. :)
The real question here is, why would I NOT want to get this $100 high-speed MMC card?

You should get whichever gives you the most storage for the dollar, whether it's SD or MMC.
