Any audience will be impressed with your dynamic walk-around-the-stage performance as you change slides from your mobile phone or PDA. Your clients will appreciate seeing your face as you present the latest report... (And) Don't you hate it when someone hogs the CD-player for hours during your party? Using your computer as a juke-box (with password-protected screen saver on), this is a problem of the past. Salling Clicker lets you pick the songs while taking care of your guests. With our out-of-the-box support for market-leading media player products such as iTunes from Apple and Windows Media Player from Microsoft, Salling Clicker is a great remote control for listening to music."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20051018-SallingClicker.gif" /><br /><br />This is a seriously cool application. With Salling Clicker 3.0, you can now use your Pocket PC and Smartphone to control many of your Windows applications, thanks to the program's extensive scripting support. And all this over a wireless Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection means you won't have to stay by your computer 24/7. A 30-click trial version is available from the <a href="http://www.salling.com/Clicker/windows/">Salling Clicker website</a>, and if you think it's worth two thumbs up, then you can activate the product for $23.95.

I bought the Salling Clicker this weekend for a few of my systems. The app absolutely rocks. Not only does it work flawlessly on all computers and with all mobiles or PDAs that I've tested it with so far, it even has slick graphics that shows the remote's action on your computer screen. Very, very impressed. This is the future of in-home remote controls of entertainment hubs. Using a Bluetooth or WiFi enabled PDA is definitely the way to go.

Great looking program - has anyone tested on a WM 5.0 device?

I've had no luck with it on my device (Asus MyPal A730W). I first installed the basic Windows Mobile (Pocket PC) version, and the desktop and mobile apps couldn't see each other. I then tried the Widcomm version, and the desktop app replied "can't find any useful services on the device", and the Pocket PC doesn't recognise the second install as a valid Pocket PC application.

This product, then, fails my 5-minute rule: If it fails to work within the first 5 minutes, I have no more time to spend on it.

A customer reported success with an i-mate K-JAM. The Smartphone client does not yet seem to work with WM5, however, at least not when tested on an i-mate SP5.

I expect to officially support Windows Mobile 5 once we get our hands on devices for real testing; they're not yet available around here.

Cheers.

Hi!

I swear by the 5-minute rule myself, so I understand you.

Please note that the MyPal A730W is not officially supported at this time. I'm investigating, and hope to support it in the future.

For those with supported/listed device models, I think 5-minutes is enough to get started. ;-)

Hopefully, I'll get another chance of you trying the software when your device is supported.

Cheers.

Cheers! I'll definitely give it another shot when you've had a chance to look at these issues.

My gut feel is that it's some sort of incompatibility with the Widcomm stack on your PPC and the Widcomm SDK we use. This would explain (1) why the "Pocket PC" build installed but couldn't use Bluetooth (as this build uses only Microsoft stacks) and (2) why the "Pocket PC (Widcomm)" build refused to load properly.

Could you please email me privately with the version of the Widcomm stack on your MyPal?

Cheers.

After an extensive search, I managed to find a CAB file for a Bluetooth stack updated. I can't now remember which one it was that worked, or where I found it, and it probably wouldn't be kosher to post the link for it here anyway (it now reports itself as BT-PPC/PE Version 1.0.0 Build 3500 if that helps), but...

1) Now Bluetooth actually shuts off when I turn it off from the Today screen! (It didn't before: it kept coming back to life like -- I dunno, insert undead villain here. I choose Glenn Close.)

2) Clicker now works very nicely.

Now (never satisfied, are we?), feature requests:

- VGA support. (Fuzzy text is blyeechy.)
- Control PowerDVD.
- Album cover display.
- A pony for my birthday.
- World peace.
- Okay, I'll stop now.

Great!

What you found is the Microsoft Bluetooth stack.

I should add, for the benefit of other readers, that we determined that the Widcomm stack on the ASUS was a tad too old to be compatible with the Salling Clicker client. Version 1.4.1.60 or greater is required.

Normally, this issue can be rectified by grabbing an update from the hardware vendor. But, whatever floats your boat is fine by me. :-) Especially if the vendor doesn't offer any upgrades.

Cheers.

I just opened up Firefox from across the room (using the remote pointer facility of the program). This is fun!
