Yeah, well our source at the carrier says that both phones are still on their way, but that they won’t have them until sometime early next year. Disappointing, but our source was able to send along these pics of both the Wizard (which will be sold as the T-Mobile MDA) and the Tornado (which will be sold as the T-Mobile SDA), as well as further confirm for us that both will run on Windows Mobile 5.0 and have EDGE, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 1.3 megapixel digital camera."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20051009-EngadgetTMobile.jpg" /><br /><br />Engadget reports from their anonymous sources with a bit of disappointing news for those of you in the US waiting for a Wizard. It's possible Cingular will release one, but I have no timeline for that release. On the bright side, there's less than 3 months left in the year. ;)

T-Mobile USA has a really nasty habit of deciding to release something cool, then delaying it until there are way nicer models out there. They did this with the 6315 which was rumored for a good 8 months as "just about to be released". If we all lived in T-mo world, we wouldn't care - it's just that we live in the real world and notice others with better PDA Phones & Smartphones... while we wait for T-mo to serve us the leftovers.

I must admit that I was a bit skeptical when the reports started coming out about the HTC Tornado and Wizard being available on T-mobile in October of this year. Hopeful, but skeptical nonetheless. And now those fears are being born out. <sigh>
Oh, well. I guess that by the time T-mobile does get those devices, the bugs should be for the most part cleared up. One can only hope...

So are any of you thinking of getting one from Mad Monkey Boy or the like?
What are the pros/cons of doing that rather than waiting for T-Mobile to release their branded version?
Support? Although I've never needed support for my 6315, I understand that there was a lot of back & forth between HP & T-Mo for customers that called in.
Price? How much of a price difference would one expect?
Other? What other issues would one be faced with when deciding to buy an unlocked model versus the official carrier released one?

at best $150-$200 with a new contract.
And possibly a local provider for warranty issues

I am so with you. I never did get the 6315. When they did finally have it on display in the store, the employees didn't know anything about it.
I am not fond of external keyboards (makes the unit bulky, IMO) This keyboard would really make me nervous about what would happen if I dropped it. Another thing I'm curious about since the first thing I purchase after buying a new PDA is a nice leather cover. I'm wondering if even Vaja can come up with a good one for this model.
