What Is Installed On Your Pocket PC?

Wow. Over 1,100 have voted in <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,43394">the poll on how many apps you have installed</a>, and over 41% of you have more than 21 third party applications installed! 8O Contrast that to the <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9350">Smartphone Thoughts poll</a> where almost 50% fall in that 3-10 app range.<br /><br />So, now that we know you are insane with application installation ;) we wanted to see just what it is you are installing on your device. Again, the best way to do this would be to just list what is in the "Remove Programs" icon in Start|Settings|System. I know of no way to easily copy/paste and get everything. Don't forget to list the manual applications that have no installer. So busy thinking what apps I have forgot to add I got Ipaq 4700 with
3 - 1GB memory cards which are now full of I think 201 songs and 4 DVD movies. (Love Pocket DVD Studio) less time then using DVD to Pocket PC.

Took me a day to put the stuff on. It's kind of difficult to get Bluetooth working with all the stuff I have, but if I disable Today screen plug-ins, SIPs, and startup items, it works. Otherwise, no problems.

I found earlier this week that I'd lost the ability to recognize URL's. Aparently the problem was due to some software I'd been trying out, but later uninstalled. It took me a couple of weeks to realize I had a problem, and I wasn't anxious to reinstall everything. That's the one problem with backups - what if your most recent backups are backing up crap? and you keep on overwriting the good backups?

What causes instability is Today screen plug-ins, input methods, and startup items. Possibly hardware drivers. Simply having software installed shouldn't cause any problems.

If you get rid of all your third party Today screen plug-ins, your device will probably function about as well as it did after a hard reset.

I agree. Unless software is running there should be no noticiable effect for having it installed unless memory is constrained.

Today screen plug-ins, battery meters and other monitors in particular, that create background processes can affect performance.
