Are you talking about the PC version? If so, I believe you press Enter to bring up the chat dialog.

no u have got me wrong. I am talking about the ppc version of AOE. I have got a handful of AOE cheats but I am unable to make out how to enter them.

I'll second what bladewing has said. I never even knew the Pocket PC version supported cheats. Remember, the PC version and Pocket PC version of AOE are two different ball games.
