Just got my new htc wizard (kjam version). Its a great device but I'm having a few problems with software compatibility which are holding me back on using it as my primary device.

firstly Spb plus does not fully work (the screen brightness button does not work ) and Spb Weather does not update properly (it didn't at all so I reinstalled, it worked on the first update but has stopped again).

Worst of all Agenda Fusion (7.25) does not seem to work properly - it installs and runs but none of my outlook pim data appears.

These applications are essential (i can live with the spb plus problem)for me so I can't move over to the kjam until the problems are fixed

I have written to both developers hoping to get WM5 fixes but have not heard anything yet.

What versions of Spb Pocket Plus and Spb Weather are you running on your device?

The full build number will be of some help - check Tools > About.

Spb Weather Version 1.1.1 Build 433

Weather data will not update - tried different sources (weather.com and intellicast). Also tried updating both through activsync and wi-fi. When i try to refresh data nothing happens (usually the Spb weather icon rotates). In addition there are occasional problems with viewing the data on the today screen - when changing from a 5 to a 4 day forecast the temperatures are cut off on the last day.

Spb Pocket Plus Version 3.0.1 Build 4036

installs and appears to run ok but backlight icon does not work - the slider will move up and down but the backlight is not effected - and when accessing some of the system type shortcuts (modify menus for example) the program seems to slow down.

when I first installed pocket plus on my kjam and performed a soft reset the device would not come on at all. Eventually I did a hard reset. I tried installing again and it seemed to work the second time around - the only difference is that I disabled the safe mode function. Im not sure if this was causing a problem - the only other application installed at the same time was MS voice Command, which i removed - I have read in other forums that both of these applications are causing devices to stop responding. Im not sure if this is purely when both are loaded together or whether both cause independent problems.

My K-jam has a 1.1.9.3 wm5 rom with a rom date of 9/16/05

As an aside - I love Spb products and also have Spb Time and Spb Finance - I have not tried installing these two apps yet as I would rather get the others working properly first.

I'm not sure, but I think you should read this article. http://www.pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=reviews&id=702

Disabling the security feature might help...

But again, I'm not sure.

You do seem to have the latest builds installed, and I can only think that the problems you are experiencing are device-specific as the products have been tried and tested in a Windows Mobile 5.0 environment. There might be something about the current build of the K-JAM's ROM that is conflicting with Spb Pocket Plus and Spb Weather.

Hopefully, Spb knows what might be wrong.

In general, applications that have not been explicitely ported to WM5 will not work well, because there is no guarantee binary compatibility between WM5 and the older Pocket PC's (some API's have changed, some dll's have changed, etc). MSFT did not even attempt to garantee binary compatibility, so this means that all applications will need to be ported / addapted to WM5.

Unfortunately, there is a bug in the CAB installer of WM5, causing it to install without warning old CAB files that it should reject (PlatformMax is not tested correctly by the CAB installer, which was recently reported on the development newsgroup).

So basically the situation is that any old Pocket PC application designed for Pocket PC 2003 SE or earlier versions of Pocket PC will most likely install with no warning on your WM5 device, but many of those will not work well (or not at all), because they were not designed for WM5.

So you should install only applications that explicitely indicate that they support (or are designed for) Windows Mobile 5.0. If you install other applications not yet ported to WM5, do it at your own risks!

By the way, we have just released PocketTV Classic 1.1.5 (freeware MPEG Movie Player) for Windows Mobile 5.0, see announcement here: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=43438 .

If you have a WM5 device and want to help us, you can send us the log file produced by PocketTV 1.1.5 (instructions to generate the log file are here: http://www.pockettv.com/makelog.html ).

Thanks for any feedback (good or bad)!

Hi, all!
Everyone who has the problem with Spb Weather update information on WM5 devices, I recommend to write a request to Spb Technical Support from here (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/weather/support.html).
At the moment Spb Weather has no official WM5 support, but we have beta version of the application that works normally on Magneto. So once you write us we'll send you this version of Spb Weather.

Thanks for attention.
