Have you ever been totally engrossed in a TV show—I mean, really into it, like you’re the one standing in the middle of dark street on a rainy night—when suddenly you notice on rain drop on the camera lens?

Sccccrrrrreeeeech. You’re abruptly ripped out of the experience. You’re not standing on a dark and rainy street at all, but rather sinking into the folds of your oversized couch… total buzz kill.

For many, a Pocket PC experience can be similar. There are some obvious gaps in functionality that remind you, well, you’re not really using a PC. And while you don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth (after all, your PPC gives you some powerful gifts in the form of freedom and flexibility), you still have needs and wants and wishes...

Here’s five “sore spots” that probably top your list:

> Not enough storage
> Lousy format for small screen
> S-l-o-o-o-w speeds
> Inadequate shortcuts
> Difficulty printing

At 3am Labs, creators of LogMeIn Pro remote access software, we think your Pocket PC experience should be as close as possible to being at your desktop or laptop — unfettered by latency, complexity, screen resolution, printing, file access or security woes. We’ve listened to your feedback about what’s needed – or just really wanted – to make your Pocket PC experience about as good as it can get on device that small. In fact, we want you to forget about how small your Pocket PC is altogether.

What Is LogMeIn Pro?
LogMeIn Pro is remote access software. You install it on your work or home computer – or whatever computer you want to access remotely (no software is required on your Pocket PC), and it takes less than two minutes to set up. Once installed on a computer, you can then securely access that PC from any web-enabled device, including your Pocket PC.

LogMeIn: Two-Minute Power Upgrade for Your Pocket PC

Kilobytes, Megabytes, and Gigabytes!
Now you don’t need a lot of storage space on your PPC. Store all your files on your home or office PC, and connect to it remotely from anywhere, anytime to access and retrieve the files you need. LogMeIn Pro’s File Transfer and Folder Synch features making getting the files you need a snap.

Formatted to Fit Your Screen
LogMeIn automatically senses if you are connecting from a device running Microsoft CE and formats the screen to match the Pocket PC viewing window.

Figure 1: The login screen and My Computers page of LogMeIn, formatted to fit your PPC.

LogMeIn Pro also has a file retrieval feature unique to the Pocket PC. When you log in, you are able to choose between Remote Control and File Transfer. Choosing the File Transfer option allows you to access files on your remote PC, securely transfer them to your Pocket PC (without the need to first launch a remote control session). When opened locally, the documents are formatted to match the screen size and resolution of your Pocket PC - eliminating the tedious scrolling around to view documents.

Additionally, landscape views allow you to rotate your screen 90 and replicate the aspect ratio of the display on the PC you are accessing — so scrolling is again kept to a bare minimum.

Lightening-Fast Remote Control
After the initial connection is made between your PPC and a remote computer, LogMeIn uses a patent-pending peer-to-peer technology that provides you with remote control speeds so fast you’ll feel like you’re in front of the remote PC.

Access Your PC, Lickety Split
Connecting to LogMeIn is easy. LogMeIn is awesome, I load the free version on my desktops at home and I can access them anywhere I can get a Internet connection. It's almost scary how it works through my firewall without opening any ports. The Windows Mobile client is great, and the PC client rocks. I highly recommend LogMeIn for anyone who wants to remotely access their computers, securely.

I've been using LogMeIn since last year, with the free client for most of my machines (and my friends machines that I end up fixing) and the pro version for my laptop. The 30 day trials are nice, and the price is better than some of the other solutions out there. Nice to see they've updated their PPC interface for the pro version - Kudos to 3AM labs!

How come the screen shots don't show PocketIE?

We are in the process of switching over from another service to LogMeIn to remote into all of our clients' computers. LogMeIn is great! With the old service we would experience horrible latency issues and downtime, but LogMeIn doesn't share these issues.

I love LogMeIn and would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone needing a solution of this kind.

They might not have had the technical chops for that ;-), or the time to get them done.

I agree - LogmeIn is currently the best solution out there for remote access - it rocks.

It does seem that the pricing model for ALL of these services, however, needs some tweaking. The $70-100 per year access fee (for pro service) for a single PC makes sense for business, but there needs to be another pricing tier for home. I was looking a Pro for 5 home PC's, but there is no way I'm shelling out $300-400.

i would like to post a hearty "me too!".

i have been using the free version on all of my systems for some time now, and about a week ago i upgraded to pro on my main internet machine. i might not keep pro because i rarely need the file transfer option, but so far i can say it's working great.

i have not ever tried to access it on my PDA, because the only wi-fi access point i can ever get acceptable speeds from is my own at home, and i hope i will never be lazy enough to access my computers through my pda from the couch :)

I have tried to access the PC with my Sx66 at home, I can only go up to remote control page but can not see the PC screen at all!
I am not sure if their claim is true. I can access well with my other computer but not with SX66

I also agree, LogMeIn is great! I hadn't really needed to use it until a few months ago, since at home I had a public IP address and could forward ports and use Remote Desktop to access various workstations behind my router. But at college, I have less control, so LogMeIn works great. :D

I am. And my desktop is literally 3 feet away from the couch. I may have to look into this program.

I just did it. I first tried to do it using Netront but that didn't work.
After logging in through PIE, the WM app was downloaded and installed. I was remoting my laptop in minutes.

I liked logmein when I used PPC OS 2003SE, but I've been unable to get it to work on WM 5 (imate jasjar). Haven't really started searching for fixes but nothing I tried would allow it to work. I was able to log in, download and install the cab fle app, and then nothing.

Galt, logmein updated their client software on monday and now it works for WM2005. you have to update the pc client software. I upgraded and now i use it with my jasjar without problems

i use logme in free on my homecomputer and pro on my work machine.

it works great and is fast. with cable connection its obvious, but it also works on my MDA mini over GPRS (i set the screensize to 75% for that).

you cant really use apps with that small screen but simple stuff like restarting a server or triggering scripts on the go does work and has made my life easier oftentimes now :)

Hi,
all this sounds good, I have been looking for similar solution for some time.
I am wondering how much data it usually transfers, could anyone make a little test for me please.
For instance make a connection from PDA to your desktop, open web browser type in www.pocketpcthoughts.com and let the page display.
How much data was tranfered?

Thanks

I just started using this product a few days ago after I saw their sponsored article on this forum. I must say that I am really impressed. I use a lot of spreadsheets for work and when I would try to go from Excel to Pocket Excel and vice versa, the formatting would get all screwed up. (A problem I am hoping is addressed when Verizon finally switches over to WM5 and allows its customers to upgrade - but that's a whole different thread....) With logmein, I can get on my work computer and open the spreadsheet as if I was sitting at my desk. They make it a little difficult to find the free version, but once you get it, it works like a charm. I am using it on my Samsung i730 to access my work computer while I am on the road. The thing that impresses me the most is that it works, even when I am connected to my office's VPN. (I work out of my home.) Most other VNC-type programs I have used would not connect to my computer when VPN was running. I have already recommended this to a couple of my friends with Pocket PCs.

Well! there are quite a few successful people here! Do you need to download something on to your pda to enable it? What am I doing wrong?
Thank you.

yes, a client will be downloaded to your PocketPC right after you enter your login credentials when surfing to logmein website on your pocket PC

Yes, it did assk for that and I accepted it. But I see a black screen of my PC on my PPC. No files can be seen. In the options on PIE, I have allow cookies checked even. Still no luck. Does enabling PIE as 6.0 by Tweaks2k2 prevents logmein to successfully show?
Thanks

Yes, that is it. It was Tweaks2k2- PIE acting as 6.0. After it was disabled it worked fine.

I'm sorry if you feel you've been 'fooled', however this article is in a forum marked "Sponsored Articles" and was posted by "Sponsor". The article, while written by the sponsor, has not been forced on the community - in fact most of our community has responded positively.

Unless, of course, you think we should have a section labeled "Sponsored Advertising", although that would seem a bit redundant ;)
