View Full Version : DHCP suddenly stopped working [ipaq 4150]
Hello all. I have been using my 4150 for a couple years now on various wifi networks using DHCP. In the last week or so, my ipaq suddenly stopped getting ip addresses via DHCP - it just stays on the 169.*.*.* autoconfiguration address. I have tried a hard reset, many soft resets, deleting all connections, editing the TCPIP section of the registry, with WEP, without WEP, on a few different access points. My PC can get addresses via DHCP just fine, but not the ipaq.
What's even stranger - I can assign a static ip address on the ipaq and my internet applications work perfectly - but I just can't get a dynamic address! I've seen other posts about this problem, but it usually traces back to a WEP/WPA auth problem, but this isn't the case here. Any ideas?
Thanks.

This is not an unknown problem to me....I find pocket pc's to have an unbelievable "death grip" on IP's.
Try using www.cam.com VxIpConfig alternatively www.lincomatic.com PocketDHCP
Thanks for the reply. I have actually used both of those to try to solve this. The problem doesn't seem to be holding onto an IP address, the problem is acquiring one. I fear the worst since I did a hard reset and tried to connect to my network and had the same problem.

It seems that you have tried everything that I would have suggested.
Editing the registry
PocketDHCP
Confirming that the radio does work with static ip's
Hard reset
I don't know what else to suggest  Keep trying and hopefully somehow it'll clear.
Perhaps if you try it in this order....
hard reset
disable WEP for simpler testing purposes
Confirm connection manager settings using http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.org/WM2003/Connection_Manager/ConnectionManager.html
start the radio
allow PPC to attempt to get IP automatically
Failing auto ip, try Pocket DHCP
failing pocketDHCP, try the static ip to see if that'll work
If you an only get on by static ip's....then I guess you might check and see if there is a ROM update or contact HP... :frusty:

Hi,
I had about the same problem on my Asus A716 recently. Like you, it just sudently stoped working (DHCP), and even a hard reset wouldn't solve the prob. But I managed to solve the problem 8)
I've instal Hitchhiker (http://www.kasuei.com/hitchhiker/) (it's freeware) and could connect to my home network through it with no prob.
Now the mysterious thing is that my ppc wifi went back to normal after this, meaning I've now deleted hitchhiker and everything still works like a charm. I have no idea of what have appened, but you should give it a try (there are also other free programs similars to hitchhiker_pocketwarior, wififofum etc_ that could maybe also help you)
Hope that'll help (that would be good for a first post)
