Please take a look at the article at this link on "Restoring the OS on a Dell Axim". http://tom61.arcadecontrols.com/axim_bootloader.html

He claims the Axim can essentially re-flash its own ROM from a ROM .img file saved on a CF card. (It sounds almost too good to be true)

Has anyone done this? Anyone have an Axim X5 they would be willing to try this on and report back?

When Joe-Bob brings me his Axim brick, I will likely try this as a last resort for reviving the X5.

Any info out there?

Not sure if it's the same case for say the x50(v) though. :|

This is true, at least for the X51v. I've never done it myself, but Dell forwarded me the instructions for a manual flash on the possibility that I had a defective ROM.

One of the first steps (optional) of flashing a Dell Axim x50 is to backup the existing ROM should you decide for whatever reason to go back to it.
