I'm not sure what to do about this. I bought an eBook (fiction) and found the illustrations were missing. Since they are an integral part of story, it was difficult to follow along.

I sent several messages to the seller but got no response. I sent a message to the publisher, they offered a refund. I told them I wanted them to remove the book from distribution until it was fixed or at least change their description to show the book is incomplete. At that point the publisher clammed up.

To be entirely honest, I found the same book in the Gutenberg Project files and it had exactly the same mistakes! I was hoping that by spending some money on the book I would get the full version with illustrations.

So, I'm asking, "Should I tell the world and name names? Should I just chalk it up to experience and not buy from that publisher?"

What do you think?

I have over a hundred ebooks in several formats (but haven't read them all through). Other than the cover page, I have seen none yet with pictures. If they can do the cover page, you would think others would show up too - but not. :(

Ebooks with pictures do exist, see for example here http://www.blackmask.com/cgi-bin/newlinks/search.cgi?query=gulik (both books are strongly recommended, especially to the price: US$ 0.99 each (yes, you read it correctly)!)

And, stdbud, you can probably find your Gutenberg book here for free (but without pictures as Blackmask never seems to include pictures in the Public Domain section). So take the refund.

What is the name of the book?

Check this site if you want to see an interesting example of an ebook with pics. Basically she's created a graphic novel in ebook form.

I believe she's currently working on an animated graphic ebook.

I guess I can safely tell the name of the book since there are several companies distributing it and publishing it.

It is "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" by Agatha Christie.

I will say, also, it was the cheapest version I found. I don't know if other publishers left out the illustrations.

I've seen several e-books with illustrations and images. MobiPocket and MS Reader are both able to show books with images. I can't speak for other readers; I don't have any experience with them.

Well, take the offer from the publisher and get your money back. You can download that book (and another one) from Blackmask for free.

The books comes from Project Gutenberg as you correctly wrote and they didn't do illustrations at that time. However, you could scan the illustrations in yourself from a library book and add them to the HTML version (use for example MS Word) and convert the resulting file to .LIT, iSilo, Mobi ... Several people in this forum can help you with that.
