It features 128MB ROM and is expected to receive the Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade at the end of the year.

The second, and probably the most important announcement, is the release date of the E-TEN M600. This quad-band Pocket PC Phone Edition runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and features 802.11b Wi-Fi, which for some is the breaking point between the M500 and M600. This device is just around the corner, having been tagged with a late September / early October release.

So there's the m500 enhanced with 128 Ram.
The m600 with 64 Ram.

What gives? How about an m600 with 128 Ram.

Perhaps this is an effort to keep the m500 competitive at the same price as the m600.

It looks like the Phone Edition space is going to be getting lively for the next few months.

With WM5, 64mb more than enough.

That m600 looks awesome. Once again, it seems like it has *everything* I would want in a converged device except ONE thing. I know it has built in wifi, but to include EDGE would have been nice.

Still, the m600 might be on my short list.

If you take a look at the link in the original post, I think there is a typo. The specifications list the M500 with 128MB of ROM. From what I've known, this has always been the same between the M500 and M600.

Does ANYONE know what the cost for the M600 will be?

True, but thats not really my point. If they were going to up the RAM, I'd like to have it in the latest model also.

That makes more sense. I just hate it when upgrades come out and OEMs start mucking with their old models. Its confuses me. :)

If it had EDGE, I would buy one of these in a heart beat. As it stands, I will wait to see if the Wizard's CPU is sufficient. If not, I still may end up with a M600. It is good to see that there will be at least a couple of small PPC phones to choose from for a Cingular customer.

I did a little more digging into the E-TEN website. It has the M600 listed for 557 Euros w/o VAT. I don't know what VAT means, but 557 Euros converts to about $697 U.S. Dollars. I was hoping for a $650 price tag, so this isn't too bad for a rockin' PDA & Phone.

Anyone know if T-Mobile will carry it? If so, would they carry it immediately?

The m600 with 64 Ram.

It's a typo.

Check the specs. It still shows 64mb of RAM and the total memory is unchanged. :)

Aye, I'm glad you're sharp-eyed. I'll update my post.

i think this eten m600 is coming out a little too late.. any one wanting a smaller device in the size range of this would prefer to buy imate k-jam coz of the built in keyboard and EDGE
my 2 cents

I disagree. Though EDGE is definitely a large plus, the K-JAM has a slower processor and from what I can tell costs a lot more. Its also rediculous to put miniSD on it. All PPC's should use SD. We aren't yet ready for mass miniSD. This thing would require most people to buy new memory cards (adds even more to the cost) and is less compatible w/ more devices. Even if you have something like a miniSD camera you can use a convertor to put it into the handheld. miniSD also lags behind SD in capacity and remains to be more expensive.

Agreed. To me, the m600 is still the preferable device.

I keep forgetting that the wizard has mniSD, but the processor is likely to be a deal breaker for me.

That being said there is little else to complain about with the Wizard. I'm kind of disappointing that Samsung cancelled their i750. That one may have also been on my short list.

To me the Universal was never a serious consideration simply because of the size, and the fact that its UMTS support is useless in the states.

There are still other devices yet to be released. So the jury may still be out.

So far, the m600 is the device to beat for me.

Subtle...

The m600 is likely to be my next purchase. But I'm keeping an open mind for some other company to wow me.

Are there any other wm5 quad band Pocket PCs (besides the m600 and the wizard) coming out soon? I am in the market to purchase in the next few months and want to make sure I research all of my options.

Several websites had posts about a few devices announced at Computex but I can't find any of them. The m600 was one of the ones listed.

But be aware that not all of them will come out in the short term. So far, just the M600... (or so they say)...
