I am trying to understand this world of pda phones. I have always had a cell phone and pda separate from each other. I am now looking to venture into the pda cell world. Problem is I dont know where to start.

I do want something unlocked so I can use any sim card. I also know that I want a windows OS (like my ipaq). What are the suggestions and/or advice anyone may have????

Thanks for any info.

Since you mentioned a SIM card, I assume that you're running on a GSM network. I know that the HTC Magician (Also sold as the i-mate JAM, and under a variety of other names) is a very popular model. However, you might do well to wait a little while, as new devices are coming out soon such as the Wizard and the Universal. Is cost a factor?

very good suggestions. it seems as if the HTC Wizard looks identical to the Qtek 9100. Am I just seeing things??

I also read that I mate renamed the HTC Wizard the K-Jam. How do I tell these things apart??

Yes, the Wizard is identical to the Qtek 9100, and the K-Jam as well. Here's the deal. High Tech Computer of Taiwan, also known as HTC, designs and builds devices. They're pretty much the number one manufacturer of real smartphones in the world, and make a great many of the classic style of PDAs as well. However, they don't sell direct to ordinary people. What they do is they sell their devices to other companies, who then resell them to us. This is how a single HTC model, such as the Wizard, gets to be the Qtek 9100, the K-Jam, and a dozen other things. But by and large, they're all the same device. I and many others tend to refer to them by their HTC name, such as Wizard, Magician, Universal, etcetera, since it's more recognizible than some of the esoteric brand names.

One essential thing in picking a device is, where are you? If you're in the U.S., the Universal would be practically useless, but if you're in Europe, it might be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Another option would be the eten m500 as it is quadband, available right now, will be upgradeable to wm5 by Dec05 and can be bought barely used for under $400USD everywhere. I've had one 6 months and it's been the best ppc pe I've used to date. :D

An ipaq H6315 windows mobile phone edition (unlocked) would be a nice choice. It can be unlocked by flashing the ROM I think. I got mine already unlocked off ebay.

How did you get it so early? Reviewing or testing it?
