Dear Gathered Masses,

I have a Sunnto Vyper dive computer with a serial adaptor (http://www.sprentice.fsnet.co.uk/vyper.htm) and use a piece of software called pDive (http://www.inner-space.co.uk/pdivelog/) on my 2210. At the moment I use Dive Assistant but it is rather cumbersome and would like to move to pDive and use the download function.

There is a means to connect the 2 but it requires a null modem for connection - I can a null modem from an electronics store but how do I connect it to my iPaq?

Thanks

Gareth

You should be able to get away without the null modem
http://www.pc-mobile.net/compaq.htm
either PQSM or PQ8SMP

These are pinned out so that a device that normally connects to a PC can connect to the iPAQ. A serial sync cable for the iPAQ is designed to hook to a PC, so you need a null modem to connect to something else designed to hook to a PC.

Note that both the above have male 9 pin connectors and I am pretty sure your device has a female DB9 to hook to a serial port.

I won't guarantee the adapter has the control signals wired right for you dive watch, but things like watches don't typically use them and just relay on Tx, Rx and Gnd.

If you want to go strictly by the website for pDive, what you want to google for is an Ipaq Serial Sync Cable. They are still available, though harder to find as most current PCs and OSs have USB capability.

Thanx for the advice on the divelog software. To get a simple null modem use the standard serial cable and use a null modem adaptor (F-M).
