All I know about midlet managers.. is that I don't have one on my PPC.

Can someone who knows more than me (which is highlylikely :) please shed some light on what the exact purpose of these is?

Opera Mini is available for download (on xda-developers) but its in .jad and .jar (java) files and the java midlet manager is required to install adn run it.

So I assume it provides some kind of java runtime environment.

Additional questios:
Where do I get one? is it device specific? Is it OS specific? cause i'm running WM5... Is it open source? if it is, can someone please upload it or point me to a place when i can get it?

Already tried the IBM J9 midlet manager? http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36013 Dunno if it works under WM5 / if it runs Opera, though.

I haven't personally tested the leaked PPC Opera version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=27138), will try to do ASAP (now, I have to pick up some new stuff for my computing museum so I can't right away). The guys over at XDA Developers mentioned midlet manager (http://www.dmmh.nl/xda/files/) (hope it's free, as opposed to the IBM product), but I couldn't find it using the Search Files form. Did you find it?

I havent tried the IBM midlet manager. Thelink you have provided, but the file it lists for download is "SmartDialing_Magician_Generic.cab" so I'm not sure if this is thre right file.

Returned from the post office; installed IBM J9 and the Opera MIDP2 (full) midlet - it's working pretty good so far. I'll write a complete tutorial/review of it later.
