I want to continue to use my desktop as my "finances of record", but use my PDA as my "transaction manager/check register". I want the transactions to show up in the desktop without unnatural gyrations, (like they do now with PocketQuicken).

What are my best choices?

I can convert to Money on the Desktop, since I am running an old (Quicken 2001 Deluxe) now, but I'll need some advice and "Best Practices/Difference" if I do.

Spb Finance 2.0 is one of the better financial applications out there that supports both Money and Quicken. Have you given that a go? There's a trial version available if you wish to get a feel for it first.

The description of SpbFinance on PocketGear.com states two conflicting compatibilities: It states that it supports Quicken 2002 and newer and it states that it supports Quicken 2001.

I could certainly upgrade to a newer Quicken (currently running 2001 Deluxe) and have newer Money available. But would like to know if it supports my current desktop software before installing a trial.

I wouldn't rely too much on the description at PocketGear. Head over to the Spb Finance product page (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/finance/?en) and in the Editions (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/finance/editions.html?en) section, you'll come to realise that it supports Quicken 2002-2005, so you might not be able to use this version of Spb Finance with your existing version of Quicken 2001 Deluxe.

It might be worth looking at an upgrade. There are other mobile financial applications out there, but most rely on manual importing/exporting of Quicken data via QIF files and/or alternate desktop replacements, which is something I don't think you're after.

Quicken does have a PPC version that works with my desktop Quicken Deluxe 2001; however, it is a release behind the Palm version I just paid to upgrade to and the cross-grade is $20, so it's less attractive than simply staying with the Palm T3 in addition to the X50V.

In any case, I have a 30 day trial on PPC Quicken, which will take me well into September and the WM5 upgrade to the X50V is supposed to be out in October and will be a complete reinstall for me, which will give me another 30 days! There will be a bit of a gap in-between, and I'll need to revert in November. Oh well.

I just got Cash Organizer and it's been updated for 2006 quicken and mobile. I haven't really gotten into it it being the holidays but it seems to sync w/quicken quite nicely. I'm can't vouch for extensive use but at this point I'm pretty tickled with it's potential.

As a long-time Quicken user on my desktop (currently using Quicken 2002), I looked at all the alternatives when I first got my PPC too - but everything else was too complex for what I wanted, just a simple transaction viewer/editor that easily synced with my desktop Quicken - no importing or exporting QIF files or stuff like that. After a long time installing and reinstalling Quicken for the Pocket PC, I finally gave in and spent the not-inexpensive amount and purchased PPC Quicken. It works great, you can set it to sync every time you dock your PPC or manually, and it just works - no fiddling or configuration necessary. :)
