usually before i buy anything i look up user reviews. it assures me that what im buying is a good product.

anyways, i was thinking of buying the Ipaq rx3115. Ive read the reviews and a lot(maybe 6 reviewers) have said that their rx3115 died after the 3 month warrenty. Ive seen the specs and i love what i see. ive also played with it for a while at the local store and it seems very solid.

so, do you guys think that basing my purchase on the thoughts of 6 reviewers is logical? I mean, are the only people who would go online to review a product are thoses who totally love it or those who have had problems and hate it.

one more thing, do you guys think 58mb of ram is enough to have game emulators on the ppc? not looking at any high tech crazy games, maybe a little sega, a little snes.

thanks for any input guys

Its a prettysoid machine and the memory is enough for emulation.
The speed is a bit on the low side though for emulating snes and the like.

I love my 3115. Itīs the best bang for the buck you can have now. If you could wait a few months and pay and few hundreds more wait for the new WM5 units... and also take a look at the X50v wich will have an upgrade. But it think that for about $200, the 3115 is really a good choice. Never had a problem with mine.

wow, thats a breather! lol, i dont know what else my budget could have afforded. so how long have you had you 3115 for? main priority is that it wont break on me after just a few months.

Urm, im pretty sure that HP gives at least a full year of warrantee so I dont understand where this three months stuff is coming from.

I would have to agree with Fishie, I sell the 3115 and to the best of my knowledge it has a 1 yr warranty. Check HP's website to be sure, and if worse comes to worse look at buying an extended service plan with it. That will at least give you a couple of extra years of coverage should something go wrong.

It's commonly known that whatever tech-related product you buy, it's outdated within the next day. But unless you want your Pocket PC to be the biggest and best in the market for the next few years, it should last you throughout your entire time as a student (which I'm guessing is a few years). The rx3115 won't be receiving the Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade, but if that's something you're not too concerned about, then you can easily disregard that point. As Fishie and Mitch D have stated, it's a solid device which should serve you well, but bear in mind that there are other devices out there.

If all you're after is basic work, media, internet, e-mail, and PIM functionality, the rx3115 won't fail you - with or without the Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade. Food for thtought. :)

Th 3115 only has a 90-day warranty. The 3715 has a full year warranty.

I have the 3115, and it's generally been a good performer. However, the screen did lose touch sensitivity -- luckily for me it was just within the 90-day limit, so I was able to get it serviced.

If I could turn back time, I'd get the 3715 instead -- but now I'll hang onto the 3115 for a year or so and see what WM5 machines will be available then.

I returned my 3715 for the 3115. Cause the 3715 has a lot of problems on it's file store... video recording was cool, the cradle also, but my 3115 is 100% more solid. Both have 1 year warranties. Expect at least 3 years of lifetime, or even more... maybe a $50 higher capacity battery will be needed in a few more years, nothing else... buy some G2 or nushield screen protectors and that's it. Uh, I'm a student also. Thats why i care so much of my budged.

I just recently purchased my rx3115 after long debate over rx3715. I'm very pleased that I went with the rx3115. I start college on Monday and hopefully use this vs. Lugging my laptop are all the time (my intentions are good, we'll see if I use it for college or playing around). My only complaint is it could use some more memory other that the wifi, bt & other features work great.
I just purchased a 512mb sd card for pictures and music. The price was good I couldn't pass it up.
