I am about to order my new Axim X30 (yippee!) and I see in the description of the processor it says "Intel® XScaleTM Processor at 624MHz with WMMX". On the Axim X50's, the processor description just says "Intel® XScaleTM Processor at 416/520/624MHz" I haven't been able to find anywhere what the heck WMMX is or if it even means anything at all. Does anyone know?

WMMX means Wireless MultiMedia eXtentions. WMMX is included in all newer XScale processors. It's a special set of instructions that allows WMMX optimized programs to run faster by taking better advantage of the CPU's graphics and audio capabilities.

Ah, thanks. So is it odd that the X30 has it and the X50v doesn't?

My bet is that the X30 is using an older processor where that was new and noteworthy but the X50 already has it.

Maybe, it is an older model. I'm pretty sure they use the same processor in the X50v and the X30 though--same speed anyway.

Or even perhaps that the X50's separate ATI graphics processor makes it redundant.

Both the X30 and X50/X50v line utilise the Intel PXA270 processors.

They both have WMMX, it's just not mentioned in the X50s specs. And the video controller, present only on the X50v, is Intel, not ATI. The Intel chips are vastly superior to the current ATI offerings.
