View Full Version : iPAQ hx4705 stuck in bootloader mode during ROM update!

I don't know why, but since the battery fix for the ROM update had been released from hp, I thought I'd go ahead and do it.

So I hard reset the device, formatted the File Store, and deleted the partnership and all files from the desktop PC. I got on with a guest partnership for the update and began the process. It validated that the ROM image met the criteria for the update and began the process. It put my iPAQ into a bootloader mode with the letters USB up top and v1.01 at the bottom, with the hp logo in the center of the screen.

It seemed to all be going well, but I got a message telling me that it had trouble loading some sort of USB driver, even though it showed that it had loaded (probably not fast enough for the program, I guess) and that it was terminating the update process.

The only problem is that now I'm stuck in bootloader mode! I've tried the hard reset process (no joy), and every other key combo I could think of. I've tried removing the battery and letting it sit for a while, but when I but it back in and reset it, the same screen comes up, only it says SERIAL at the top instead of USB!

Sorry to make this long, but I wanted to recount exactly what happened and how it happened, along with any steps I took. I don't want anyone asking me if I had done something that I had already thought of (hate that, myself, LOL!).

Anyway, any help or info is appreciated!

i also went through a similar experience...

it hanged halfway during rom upgrade.

Dont panic... Just reboot ( The computer) , attach back the pda to cradle (which is attached to computer of course, with the power adapter on)

Then just try the Rom upgrade again...

I did that and it completed the upgrade this time.... but it took like ages. (almost 15 minutes!!!!)

Hope this works, in yourcase... if not it is off to the HP service centre.

HP has informed me that the ROM has been corrupted due to an incomplete ROM update procedure. So I'm going to be sending it into HP for them to repair and flash.

Thanks to those who responded to my query.

Well, I got it back two days after I sent it to them (fast service!), and it's got the newest ROM and the battery update installed. They included a detailed summary of what they found wrong with it and what they had done to correct it.

The ROM was corrupted and they replaced my circuit board for a new one. They also had flashed the ROM to the latest version. So overall, I have to say that I'm both impressed and happy with HP's support. I know that a lot of people have had problems, but my experience was nothing short of stellar!
