Listening now. Great intro Dave and Ed! :D

Oh, regarding the RSS feed, not a big deal to change that, but with some RSS readers, you can't change the feed url in existing subscriptions. Would you consider pointing the old xml podcast file to the new one?

How?
Well, I think there's a few ways to do that. First, I would try a symbolic link, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link) but I'm not 100% sure that would work. An alternative would be to have php parse the old .xml file, and simply put a php include (http://www.php.net/include) to get the new location.

Simple, just change the .htaccess file to automatically forward the requests. Basically this would be the ultimate "sybolic link". I don't recall the old "thoughtcast", but just modify this (that should all be on one line btw)...

Redirect temp http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com.........xml http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/xml/thoughtcast.xml

Using "temp" as the status parameter will return a "302 moved temporarily" header. You can use permanent also, but then the browsers would never look back at the old url.

Actually the best way would be to create something like http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/thoughtscast/ and use the redirect in the .htaccess to point wherever you wish.

Oh right, how could I forget a simple .htaccess redirect? That's probably the easiest way.

I think I'll leave it the way it is. :-) Thanks for the input though.

It's called "Ed's not about to edit the Apache configuration file to enable htaccess in that directory, and the sysadmins have a long pile of other things to take care of first". ;)

1) Delete the old subscription
2) Add the new one
3) Enjoy

Palm will NOT be the first OEM to lisence both PalmOS and WM. Samsung fyi has been lisencing both for a while as well as some minor lisencees like Oswin/GSL etc...

With regard to Samsung, I thought about that as I was saying it but decided you can't really go to Samsung and buy one. It isn't like you, as a consumer, can decide between a Palm and WM Samsung phone without deciding between carriers, and my understanding is Samsung has really dropped Palm.

It gets murky when talking about carrier only devices. Samsung is really more of an ODM than an OEM.

But you could then use the same arguement for Palm! You won't be able to buy this rumored WM Treo 670 directly but through Verizon! A majority of handsets are sold via wireless carriers, so that isn't anything suprising. Furthermore, Samsung is still a PalmOS lisencee. It's most recent release was the i539 in China fyi...

That's a shame. Sorry Palm is changing this. Right now you can buy a Treo from them and tack on a carrier plan at www.palm.com.

The podcast is a nice talk 8).

But WHY do you have to think you have to try BLOWING OFF my speaker with this intro  :splat:

BTW Palm is NOT the first company to sell POS and PPC devices.

I believe Symbol was the first one to do it years ago...

As you said in the podcast, Pocket PC Phones beat PPC + BT Phone for functionality. Auto email check and MSN online while the device is "off" is great!!!

Why do you keep the speakers so loud? Personally, I really like the intro. Dave has done a superlative job. 8)

Ed, love the podcasts- they are getting better each time. :)

Re: the Tablet PC. I understand why you might not understand if a Tablet PC can provide the type of utility you need but dismal failure? I think that statement is a little strong perhaps. The only dismal failure is the lack of marketing- I believe, as a long-time handheld user like yourself, that if you used a Tablet PC for a week you would be hooked. I went through the same process myself and I know what happens when the light goes on. You can now find Tablets by OEMs like Toshiba and HP for $1500- 1600 that are nicely configured so maybe you should take another look.

Keep the podcasts coming! :D

I still have to see a tablet pc in a shop here in the UK. The shelves are full of laptops, but nothing else. Its quite frustrating, as I'm quite interested.

Yeah, I thought about getting a tablet PC, but lack of power detered me. I can't afford to have two PCs, so the tablet would be it. I need one with a standard P-M, 60Gb+ HDD, 512MB (pref. 1GB) RAM and a builtin keyboard. I would also like a decent (not overcharged, just decent) GPU as well.

Anything like that out there?

Maybe, maybe not. I carried a tablet PC for the last year, and just went back to a regular notebook form factor (Apple doesn't sell tablets ;)). In all honesty, I really don't miss the tablet PC. It's great for notetaking in classes, but apart from that I almost never used the tablet form.

Check out the Toshiba Porteges. I can't remember which GPU it is, but they pack a lot of punch. 1440x1050 12" screen, P-M, 60+GB HDD, up to 2GB of RAM. One of the very few devices out there that have such a high-res 12" screen. My officemates love the unit.

As Janak points out the Toshiba M200 is a top notch machine. The new Toshiba Tecra M4 is even more of a powerhouse with a 14.1" screen and is probably (but who knows in the end) WindowsVista ready with beefy specs in the graphics area. All convertible Tablet PCs have an attached keyboard making them full-fledged notebook computers with a screen that swivels around to the slate form. To me this provides the best of both worlds. Of course, I'm not biased or anything. :D

The M4 in Australia is packed with a 128MB GeForce Go 6600 (PCI Express 16x), which in my opinion, packs a lot of punch. If you receive the Harris Tech monthly catalogues, you'll see it heavily advertised in the laptop section.
