Hi, just done and backup followed by a hard reset, so I could take it apart to replace the broken 5 way button.

I have restored from backup which worked fine but when I soft reset it just hangs at the end of the progress bar on the blue and white screen.

The only way to turn if off is a hard reset. Is there any way to fix it. I'm using the built in backup application to do backups and restores.

Restores never worked for me. There's always that app that won't work properly. So now I only backup the PIM databases, and the restores work fine.

Well, you're just unlucky. You can't do much in this situation, I'm afraid.

If you need to extact important files from your iPAQ backup file, let me know. I've written a backup extractor (it's not public as yet because I still haven't got all the rights to distribute it - people are on holiday) for the most important PPC backup file formats so I'd happily extact any file you want from your backup.

I've being playing around with it and noticed if I restore everything except the registry it soft resets fine, but without the registry nothing works properly including bluetooth.

I had the same problem, I found if I never restored the registry it would start up, but obviously a lot of the programs didn't work properly. The only solution I found, which won't help you much, is to use Spb Clone as your backup solution. The Ipaq backup and sprite backup never worked for me. Sorry it's not much use now but it may help in the future.
