hi

i am thinking about getting a new pda. i currently have an ipaq 3630 with a 4Gb microdrive.

i would like the following options in the new pda

must have a builtin sim card slot
must be as small as possible
must have a keyboard (thumbboard) builtin, preferably 1 which can be hidden away when not in use
must not loose data when discharged, like the 3630 does
must be able to do everything the 3630 could do and more

so far i am thinking of getting the xda iis.

is this the best choice for me, or is there something better?

thanks for reading

You need to wait a few months for the HTC wizard, which will address ALL of your concerns. In fact there is nothing else currently available which does.

Wow

That HTC Wizard looks good. I looked on 3 sites and each site had a different image of it? Which one is it? :D

However, the HTC Universal looks amazing!!!

Can someone please gives me links to more information and images on both HTC Wizard and Universal?

Any idea how much they will cost?

Thanks

Universal:

specs - all the available specs are here: www.firstloox.org/VGAppc.htm (be warned, however, that there are two wildly varying sets of specs available - one from T-mobile/HTC and one from O2)

Wizard:

Good round up of links here: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,41873

Thanks for the links.

Is there a huge difference between Wizard and Universal HTCs ?

Are both HTC Wizard and Universal being aimed at different user groups?

Thanks again. :)

Quite a difference yes.

The Universal is VGA, has a flip and fold back screen/keyboard, a full SDIO slot, is 3G and is big and heavy.

The Wizard is QVGA, has a slide out keyboard, a mini-SD slot, is GPRS and is much smaller and lighter.

There are other differences but I would advise you follow the links to find out more.

Duncan, do I see an HTC Universal in your future?

I'm not ruling it out - but I know a couple of things (which I can't talk about) that may well rule it out. We'll see.

More than anything I just take an interest in every new high end (read: VGA/WM 5.0) PPC.

The more I read the more confused I get.

I think the Universal is cool! But I love the Wizard because its so small!

Hate being stuck between a choice like that! :D

I'd rather be confused by too many options than stuck with no choice at all. Look at the Palm users: Its the Treo or nothing at all.

Why don't you get (if you don't necessarily need 3G) a

1, decent VGA device (PL720 or hx4700; maybe the Dell x50v is you can get it much cheaper than the other two)
2, a decent BT phone (preferably a Sony-Ericsson or a Nokia model)
3, a StowAway BT keyboard?

Then, you have the best of the three worlds - you won't stuck with a thumbboard or with a 210 or 280g main device :) Furthermore, it's still not known whether the Universal will have as good a screen as that of the Loox or the hx4700.
