I (or more accurately, my S.O.) wish to use the HP PPC to demo powerpoint presentations on the office projector. (Obviously, I will have to find out what kind of projector it is.)

1] How would I hook up? The PPC doesn't have a USB port.
2] Will the PPC run the powerpoint without any additional s/w?

Well, it's hard to give suggestions without knowing which model of HP Pocket PC that you have. ;-) If you have a CompactFlash slot you can get Margi's Presenter to Go:

http://www.margi.com/products/prod_ptg.htm

If you only have an SD card, I think you're out of luck.

To actually view the Powerpoint file, you'll need a third-party application:

Margi does have an SD Presenter-to-go, but their compatibility list is pretty pessimistic http://www.margi.com/support/sup_ptg_comp.htm

I think it would support more than that, so you might call them.

There are other good options for third party Powerpoint too. Westtek Clearvue, Conduits Pocket Slides.

I would point out that the Dell x50v has VGA output built in. You just need a cable. Dell sells one packaged with a presentation package (ClearVue), and you can get just the cable from www.pc-mobile.net

Sorry...

It's an iPAQ.

It's an iPAQ.

But which model? We need to know if you have an SD slot or a CF slot. Big card or little card. :-)

Oh. It has an SD card.

Oh. It has an SD card.

Good. But according to this:

http://www.margi.com/support/sup_ptg_comp.htm

...unless it's an hx4700, the Margi solution isn't compatible. And I don't know of any other SD-based solutions out there. :?

GRRRRR! I'v e got the flippin' thing right here in front of me, but because it isn't charged, I have NO IDEA what the model is! Stupidheads. Why can't they label their hardware??

Well, if it's not on the back, they try looking through the HP site here:

and tell us which one it looks like. :-)

Fantastic. It's the 4155. Thanks.

Please if there is a merciful God, don't make me go back to my S.O. and tell here she can't do that with this. She'll take the cost of the thing out of my flesh. 8O I need a solution.

Sorry, I have no good news for you - the 4155 can't work with the Margi card (not sure why), and I'm not aware of any other SD-based solution. So you either need to:

1) Buy a new Pocket PC that will do the job (Dell X50v)

or

2) Buy a new projector that will work with WiFi:
http://www.projectorcentral.com/wi-fi.htm

Neither is a good option, I know. But (and I hope you don't mind me saying this), connecting a Pocket PC to a projector and running PowerPoint from it is still a pretty bleeding-edge scenario, so if that what you wanted to do from the start it should have guided your entire purchasing decision. Anyway, at least now you know for next time. ;-)

I would send an e-mail off to Margi asking about compatibility to the 4155. It certainly has more capability than some of the other units listed there (like the older Dells and Viewsonics). The compatibility site referenced above has a contact form and a phone number at the top.

I don't know what Margi is, but I should find out what type of projector she has at her office.

Margi is the SD card solution we've been talking about in this thread:

http://www.margi.com/products/prod_ptg.htm

As Sven said, you should email then and ask if they have a solution for your iPAQ 4155.

So, Margi is a h/w attachment and s/w that will plug in to a variety of 3rd party projectors? Or Margi is a projector?

The picture seems to imply that I'll bee buying a projector. I merely want to use an existing projector.

Sorry for the confusion, I'm not new to computers, but I am new to this Pocket PC stuff.

Yes. Go here:

http://www.margi.com/products/prod_ptg.htm

Then click on TOUR - that will give you an overview of what it is. It's exactly what you're looking for, the question is whether or not it will work with your Pocket PC.

Another option is to check to see if the project takes memory cards directly...then you don't even need the PPC.

GREAT suggestion Karen - I completely forgot about that option.
