Will the HP hx4700 qualify for an upgrade to WM 5 (no doubt for a price)? I'm thinking of buying one today, but I want to make sure I can upgrade to WM 5 when available.

Thanks,

Rob

Yes, it will be upgradeable. The CD will be made available (at a cost) in late summer 2005.

Will my keyboard or AC power cords work with the 4700 or will I have to upgrade these too (currently using an iPaq 5555)?

Thanks again,

Rob

Does your portable keyboard plug into your iPAQ's main port? If so, then yes, you will need a new keyboard. Popular ones now are Bluetooth driven, so they're effectively wireless, as well as sporting the ability to be used on all sorts of devices.

With regard to your power cords, you should find a new set bundled when you purchase the hx4700.

Rob, I have many, many iPAQ AC, auto, and usb power cords (Compaq, HP, and 3rd party), for iPAQs 36xx in 2000 through current 4700, including the 55xx, and they all still work (had to buy the adapter thingies for the oldest ones, of course).

Yeah, one of the nicest things about HP is their universal adaptor. However, if the said keyboard is a thumb keyboard attachment, it might not work with the hx4700.

I think I get it now. Other than the keyboard, all the serial type connections will work. So the only thing I'll have to buy for the 4700 are the cradles and keyboard.

Disconnected - Do you like the hx4700? Recommended buy?

Thanks,

Rob

Depending on the type of serial cables you have, then yes, theoretically, it should work.

Also, you won't need to buy a cradle. The hx4700 ships with its own. In fact, almost all mid-to-high end Pocket PCs ship with their own cradle.
