Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the Pocket PC world but I am a longer term PDA user starting with the Sharp Wizards of the early 90's, Palm Pilots of mid to late 90s and most recent a Sony Clie with Palm OS 4.1.
I lost my Clie on an airline trip this past weekend so a new PDA was needed. I selected a Pocket PC as my company has locked down software installs on all machines and the only platform that works well with the company approved conduit, was the Pocket PC. My Palm would successfully sync only 50% of the time and result in duplicate entries, etc.....a real pain in the ass. The company approved conduit (to our Lotus Notes system - which also sucks) us Common Time; any one ever hear of that? In any case, Common Time works very well with Active Sync and the Pocket PC, not with HotSync and the Palm platform.
Having my request for a new company approved (and purchased by the company) iPaQ 2410 turned down, I bought a used iPaQ 3830 for $60. It appears to be in great condition. It syncs perfectly at home. I'm just waiting for the approval for the "Common Time for Pocket PC" software to come through so I can sync at work to Lotus Notes.
Now that I've rambled on for 2 paragraphs, here is the heart of my post, 2 questions:
1.) Does anyone know where I can get/download some the original information on my iPaQ 3830 (branded as a Compaq)? I've tried the HP to no avail.
2.) I'm trying to figure out what version of Pocket PC OS I have. In Settings>About, it's listed as version Pocket PC Version 3.0.11171. In Settings>Asset Viewer>Version it's listed as Windows CE 3.0 and the sticker on the back of the unit says Pocket PC 2002 Premium w. Outlook. So are the terms "Windows CE" and "Pocket PC" interchangeable? How does Pocket PC 3.0 relate to Pocket PC 2003 or Pocket PC 2003.....I'm getting confused!
Thanks in advance for your replies!
