Im uploading a rather large file on the CF card, will Windows Media 9 on the pocket PC play a .AVI video? I already tried MPEG1

I don't think WMP9 will play .AVI files. Take a look at BetaPlayer--now called TCPMP ( http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about ). This will play almost anything out there. Otherwise, take a look at the Media Chart at
http://www.feederreader.com/mediachart.html which lists most media players and which types of files they play. Click "Playing Media Files" for a list of the players (with links) that are in the chart.

None of the Windows Media Players for Pocket PC play .Avi files. TCPMP is the way to go.

thats incorrect. it WILL play .avi. HOWEVER, what most people dont realize is that most of the .avi files you download are DivX encoded, which means you need to get a divx codec on your ipaq. i did that, and i use windows media player to play my .avi files at times, though most of the times i just stick with beta player

So where is this Divx codec for Pocket PC? I've never heard of it. Are there instructions for loading it?

If you don't mind me asking, what device do you have?

By default, Windows Media Player Mobile does not handle AVI files, but in some cases, manufacturers can configure the player to play other file types. You may be in that boat.

i think there's no way for pocket pc users to configure the windows media player 9 series mobile to play the .AVI format.

I have been using the new windows media player 10 mobile for some time, and still the same, they only supports playable formats like .MP3, .WMA & .WMV but not .AVI.

For the .MPG format, i'm currently using the PocketTV software.
Also, I would like to know if there is any player that will be able to play .MOV (quicktime movie) format file?

Thanks!

There's PictPocket Cinema. (http://www.digisoftdirect.com/products/pictpocketcinema.html)

The reality is, there are very few players out there which support MOV. You'd be better off looking at other players such as TCPMP (http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/) which support a wider range of file formats.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but AVI isn't a file format in itself, but actually a file container. Doom9.org has a nice article of understanding the difference.

So I bleieve the case here would be more that it depends on what file format is contained within the particular AVI container, as WMP may / may not have the necessery decoder.

To the author..well since you're saying that the file is large, why not convert it into divx format. http://divx.ppccool.com
