Firefox?

I've been noticing that everyone uses Firefox. Why is that? I read someone's post relating Firefox and Opera and IE to security vulnerabilities. Am I missing something here? It's probably old news I have never caught up on.

In addition to being more secure Firefox is also faster and has tabbed browsing. There are also a ton of plug-ins and extensions that you can download to customize your experience even more. But what makes Firefox more secure? What does it have that IE doesn't? Yea, I have always thought that MS IE should include tabbed windows...isn't it about time?

Probably more a matter of what it doesn't have. Firefox is not so tightly integrated into the Windows OS compared with IE. Also Firefox doesn't automatically run scripts which are a big potential source of infection through IE.

its not the tabbed browsing that makes firefox no 1, it is the plug in support. as you load more plug-ins firefox gets much better and better.
this is the case with total commander, a double panel fire manager written by christian ghisler. as the program got plug-in support, it gained much more attention and for me it is the best file manager around as firefox beeing best browser

LOL yea. Last night on CNET, I just read that FireFox had released patches for security vulnerabilities. And some of those patches malfunctioned some of the 3rd party plug-ins. I don't know how bad are FireFoxes flaws, but I am still using it because I can tab the windows...

I much prefer Maxthon to Firefox. It can even use the Gecko engine, so you not have to be exposed to IE security problems. Its much more polished, and has many more options, and also have a plug in model.

Which version? v1.05? v1.06 was released a few hours ago, which apparently fixes the vulnerabilities present in v1.05.

Actually, the main reason for 1.06 was to fix a few plugin incompatibilities introduced in 1.05. (I haven't had any problems myself with 1.05 either.)

Typhoon: Firefox has at least one major design advantage, securitywise, over IE: it is unable to run ActiveX controls. While IE6 SP2 is better about not running them automatically, I still prefer Firefox's plugin architecture, which is quite a bit more robust to spyware. (And, for those who have Windows 2000 or lower, they can't even get IE6 SP2.)
