Spb Weather 1.1 is a free update for existing v1.0.x users. For all new users, a free trial can be downloaded from <a href="http://www.handango.com/ampp/store/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&productId=157838&productType=2">Handango</a>, who are also selling the full version for $14.95. I used SPB Weather for a little while. It seemed like a quality application but it just didn't give enough information like chance or rain etc.

So I switched to WeatherPanel.

I did the same, but I found that the release version of WeatherPanel just didn't do it for me and the v2.4.something would continuously muck with my connection icon (ie, I drop it in the cradle to aync, it syncs, a short while later, I look at the iPaq and it has the disconnected icon in the start bar even though it's currently connected via ActiveSync and the CardExport icon says as much). So I uninstalled that and went back to Spb Weather and I no longer have that issue.

Anyone know where I can find templates.
The basic install doesn include anything except this GisMateo.

I need to add WeatherChannel or Accuweather.

Or some way to add US cities.

thanks

An extensive list can be found at SpbDN.com (http://www.spbdn.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6) and PDAgold.com (http://www.pdagold.com/themes/list.asp?tp=11).

By the way, the default install should include Intellicast and Weather.com as well.

I downloaded the latest version on Friday and just installed it, and it does indeed only include the GisMeteo.ru source.

Thanks for the links Darius. The PDAgold link in particular was useful to me.

And might I just say that I don't know how anyone exists without a PPC?

How cool is it to be able to get the weather forecast for your specific suburb automatically whenever you sync your PPC. Unbelievable.

And to think when my brother first offered me his old PDA (a palm) a few years ago I said "but what would I use it for?".

I love tech.

I love my pocket PC.

2 Things about the sources:

1. I had the same problem with finding sources and went to the Spb support section. Turns out that is the only source included in this version, they say they are working on another version that will support extended databases.

2. Spb actually has a link for the custom templates for PDAGold, but when I went there I found that I couldn't download anything at all. I'll try the other site, but I don't know what's up with that other site.

I forget which source I was using before, but the last time I hard-reset, the source was no longer included in the download. I now use weathernetwork.ca as my source, but it only has seven days of future weather with a 69.5KB download for each city each time, and the previous source downloaded 14 days at a time with a much smaller download.

I just downloaded Spb Weather and am meeting the same issue of GisMeteo.ru being the only included weather source.

I can't get any data to download from my Phoenix, USA location and am curious if anyone else, in the (western) USA, can get any data from this weather source. I emailed Spb Software House about this issue, but have not yet gotten a response.

On their support page (faqs?) they discuss the capability of adding these templates, that you guys are talking about, but seem to warn newbies against trying this. I did briefly look at the PDAGold link, but it seemed to offer just skins.

Could someone suggest the specific file and location for a template to add Weather.com or some other template useful for western USA? And can a relative newbie do this?

Thought I read somewhere that this was an excellent program, but maybe only for Europeans? It also seems odd to only support one weather source.

Are there some other recommended programs? - yardcat

It's interesting. I never experienced this exact issue until recently. I heard others talking about it before, but I was never there to see it with my own eyes.

I'm going to nudge the Spb developers and ask them what's going on. Weather.com should really be included by default, and it shouldn't be left up to the end-users to install it separately.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks Darius. I was swapping between WeatherPanel and SPB Weather. But when this issue arose, and I even searched for sources, I abandoned SPB Weather. I may revisit it if this issue ever gets resolved.

I think I may know at least one reason why my ipaq is having issues with the program. Another person sent me advice through this forum about uninstalling and performing a soft reset, followed by reinstalling from the desktop. I tried that, but apparently when you get to the end of the install process my ipaq freezes up and i have to do a reset to get it going again. I'm thinking that this is where the problem lies. I'll see if I can find away to find the configuration file, but any help anyone can think of would be great.

Thanks,

Johnston

I honestly don't know what happened to SPB Weather. It's an excellent piece of software in my opinion and worked perfectly in the beginning of the year, but whatever has happened of late is currently ruining the program.

I hope this problem gets fixed soon.

The latest version is 1.5 so they may be working on getting v2 out the door. Although it'd be nice if there was some info on what's happening with the sources.

Long story short, except a new version of Spb Weather next week.

a new version of Spb Weather next week.

I hope they follow WebIS's example and make it easy to upgrade.

Oh, and does anyone know any weather sources for China? Specifically, Harbin.

Oh, and does anyone know any weather sources for China? Specifically, Harbin.

The BBC covers nearly everywhere. Harbin's ID is 2221. You'll need to download and install the BBC Weather script, but it's probably worth it given the worldwide coverage

EDIT: If you've not used them before, the BBC's forcasts tend to be less detailed than those fromWeather.com: only 1 per day as opposed to 3 and only a 5-day look ahead. However, I find them to be generally pretty accurate. The template can be downloaded here (http://www.pdagold.com/themes/detail.asp?t=12007).

Magnus, is the template you got for weathernetwork.ca still functioning with SpB Weather? Mine stopped working a short time ago and I have not been able to find the bug.

TBH, I haven't used that template in literally forever. The original source I was referring to, however, is the weather.com source available here (http://www.pdagold.com/themes/detail.asp?t=14490).

And it's ctmagnus. ;)

Oops! Thanks for the help. I'm unable to get htat template to work for any Canadian community. Will keep rooting around to see what's going on.

I just followed the instructions in the text file that is in the zip file.

However, I've been running WM6 for a while and one of the "features" of the particular rom I'm using is a bunch of unnecessary crap that is carrier specific, and that carrier is not my carrier. So, due to a lack of storage, I haven't actually been running Spb Weather in three or four weeks so things may have changed with the weather sources since then.
