MSN Messenger question

I wonder if I am using my i-mate JAM to the best of its potential.

Is it possible to sign into MSN Messenger and leave it running in background and if someone wants to initiate a conversation it then jumps to foreground? What I'm after is the same functionality as on a PC.

I noticed yesterday that there is an alarm/notification for MSN in the settings and this facility would not make sense unless the type of functionality I'm after is supported.

Yes, and no. You can have it running in background, and as soon as someone initiates a conversation, you'll get a taskbar notification saying 'Person X said "this and this"', and from there, you'll have the option to Chat or Ignore. The same sort of notification appears when someone signs on.
