Hi,
I have to develop some pocket pc applications and I don't know how to start 8O
I don't know what are the common applications to develop this kind of software, I suppose Visual Basic .NET is a good start, is that correct? What about trying to synchronise a VB application with a mysql server?
What's the common tool to develop software for pocket pc?
Thx for the answers!

Microsoft offers various development tools free from their web site. Just go to www.pocketpc.com and check out the Developer link. Development for the newer PPC devices should be done using their eMBedded C++ or .NET compilers. I don't believe that VisualBasic is supported on the newer devices.

I wouldnt bother with eMBedded C++ as it will not be supported in newer versions of the OS (unless you convert it to Visual C++.NET and mess about a lot). Yes the .NET languages are where things are going and VB.NET is a very good start, I write in it myself!!! You will however need a full version of Visual Studio. The new version 2005 is coming out in October so it would be a good idea to wait for that if you havent already got it. In the mean time the beta version is a good idea as it is fully functional. Get it here. (http://msdn.microsoft.com/getthebetas/country/)

I second the Visual Studio Route, it's expensive, but perhaps you are a student and would qualify for an educational discount.

Yeh but only in America!! If you are under 18 you could always enter the Microsoft Imagine Cup http://imagine.thespoke.net/us/ they give you a free copy. You'll have to wait till September/October though.
