I've started making an online repository of Pocket PC-compatible, optimized custom dictionaries for speakers of non-English languages. These dictionaries are free and highly optimized and are a gift for people that use on-screen inut methods (for example, the on-screen keyboard).

Please see the subdirectories at http://winmobiletech.com/062005CustomWordList/dictionaries/ . These directories all contain one file, dyncompdict.dat. It must be copied to the \Windows subdirectory on your PDA (via, for example, the WinCE FS plug-in (http://pocketpcmag.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15577)). Then, the PDA must be reset for the new wordlist to be activated.

Now (29/06/2005, 16:32 CET) Finnish and a Hungarian dictionaries are available.

You are strongly persuaded to tell me if you need a custom dictionary in your own language. I will create a custom dictionary for it too. You could also point me to an online word list that contains the most used 2000-3000 words in the order of usage so that I don't need to search, particularly in a language that I can't speak.

You may also want to read this (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=41049) thread on my app that helps creating custom dictionaries.
