<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://people.interaction-ivrea.it/s.blyth/thesis/' target='_blank'>http://people.interaction-ivrea.it/s.blyth/thesis/</a><br /><br /></div><i>"The Social Fabric is a representation of your social world, displayed as a single visual array on your mobile phone. It does not replace your address book or calendar but keeps you subtly informed about which relationships are prospering, which you have neglected, and the overall state of your social fabric. Your phone's screen shows a crowd of human figures, each an avatar of one of your friends, acquaintances or relatives. The frequency of all digital communications between you and each person, which the system monitors, determines that avatar's posture: an alert stance indicates frequent recent contact, for example; a lethargic posture or turned back means neglect. You can also register non-digital contacts manually. The avatars can be grouped manually according to sentiment, category, and so on, or programmed to begin clustering together before an upcoming event: your family before a birthday, say."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20050617-SocialFabric.jpg" /><br /><br />I'm sure almost all of you haven't touched base with a few of your contacts in quite some time. The Social Fabric aims to rectify that. At the moment, it's only a concept, but it's still neat! Since it's designed to run on handhelds and mobile phones, it's probably only a matter of time before a working product makes it way to the Pocket PC. If so, would any of you be interested in something like this?

Yes. I was thinking about something like this just the other day, i.e. how easy it is to lose touch with folks through busyness and forgetfulness. Something like this could be very useful if it's implemented correctly.

Sounds very interesting - I'd definitely give it a try.

absolutely, depending on how well the software was implemented.

Just another program in the category : "You need it because it's there"" 8O

So, we require a program to manage social relations? Nonsense. Is it that technology makes us so lonely that we need to have a program telling us that real relationships existe around us? In that case I rather recommend to get rid of some gadgets

I'm sorry, but this is one of the stupidest ideas that I've heard of in a long, long time :!: :!: :!:

farnold gets the turned back avatar.
muntasser gets a suggestion.
This seems like a wonderful visual thinking stimulus which could link a whole series of changing/evolving relationships not just for family get-togethers but for team activities, projects, etc.
Maybe you are familiar with The Personal Brain software - if not check it out @ www.thebrain.com as for "implementation".
I see real merit in this line of creative PPC software and hope to hear more about it's development over time.
