Unfortunatly, as noted, you'll have to move somewhere with CDMA 2000 to use it. Nice looking machine though, hopefully a taste of what will come in the future to all of us.

That looks just like a T-Mobile Sidekick! It is a great design though, and I wish there was a Windows Mobile GSM version...

Technically, CDMA 2000 is what Sprint and Verizon use - that's not the issue. There are frequency band and other technology differences that make most Korean phones incompatible with US networks.

The basic CDMA technology is exactly the same, though, so it's relatively easy for companies to make US versions of Korean phones. They just need to add a second frequency band and things like A-GPS for E-911.

When I first saw pictures of this phone, I wondered if the screen swiveled out like the Sidekick or if it slid out. The orientation of the logo made me think it slid out, but I never saw mention of it. Now, this article confirms it slides up to reveal the keyboard.

Somehow, (if designed properly) I would think sliding back and forth would be less likely to have problems down the road then rotating around on a single axis point.

You can tell from how it held in that person's hand(s) that this thing is a beast. It's gotta look like you're holding TWO poptarts up to your ear! :D

I have to say that I love this phone. I have a PPC 6601 now and like it and used a sidekick for a long time, both the old model and the new........ I would love to have my 6601 functionality in this 'sidekickish' design!
I'm on Sprint too! Lets get this thing over here! :D

I have small hands and my E830 does not look as big in my hads as this brick does in the photographs.

Make it a more reasonable size, give it a VGA screen then give me a shout and I'll see if I am finally interested in a phone/PDA combined.

Given that ignorant airline stewardesses seem to think that a PDA (with no phone) can interfere with aircraft navigation - so they should be switched off when the doors are closed and the plane is stationary for 30 minutes at the gate yet can be switched ON once the plane reaches 20,000 feet !?!?!?!?!?!?! - I still want to pass on a phone/PDA combined for now.

I think Jon's primarily a GSM guy. ;) Anyway, I'd be very happy if R-UIM or something made its way across the globe and offered some standardization, but I'm not holding my breath. :(

I agree with you. I would love to Samsung to make a HTC Universal type device with a VGA screen. I love love to have the HTC UNiversal, but I am not moving from Verizon to get it. T-Mobile, Cingular, & Sprint are all just to spotty were I live.

And drop that bl@@dy silly aerial! Why oh why do they do it? If they can do an MDA Compact without one surely they can dump it on these bigger units too!

It would be nice to have ANY standardisation! Betamax quickly disappeared in favour of VHS. The Lord only knows why we have to have so many different mobile protocols! Despite the shrinking world, we still just seem to just do it our own way and keep reinventing the wheel (which in some cases seems to be square!!!).

Let's say "for the moment". When I actually see the amount of different design to bring a keyboard to devices I only learn one thing - no vendor really has the right solution.

After looking at this, it kind of makes me wish that the i730's keyboard slid out in landscape fashion. The extra space could be well used for this type of device, plus I think it would keep the phone from becoming top heavy when the keyboard is slid out. Not the best scenario for use as a phone, but I rarely used the PDA2K slider to dial anyway, as it becomes a bit big in expanded form.

I agree with those who say the slider concept makes more sense than the twist and flip. It certainly will provide less chance for something to break. I think the downside is that means the device must be a little bigger to accomodate the slider mechanics.

People who speak the American version of English call it an antenna. In the British version of English it is an aerial. We must be right since it was our language before they stole it ;-)
