(Nasdaq:TUNE) today introduced a new family of high-performance, ultra low-power, multi-band tuners targeted for mobile handhelds, including cell phones, PDAs and other multimedia convergence devices. When integrated into portable handheld devices, the MT2260 tuner, the first member of the new Mobile MicroTuner(TM) family, permits users to watch multi-channel broadcast TV with full-motion digital pictures and CD-quality sound. Currently sampling with major handset manufacturers, the new MT2260 is the first single-chip tuner that enables handheld devices to operate across the networks allocated for mobile broadcast TV services in both Europe and in the U.S."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/wey-20050606-Microtune.jpg" /><br /><br />Anyone excited by a TV micro-tuner for PDAs? The inclusion of one on the Gigabyte Einstein appeared to receive a huge response by many people worldwide, so this may well be the start of a trend for such devices to be appearing in the market over the next few years.

yes! I want tv on my ppc. So far the only solutions (cf devices) have been terrible.

CF card with HD TV tuner, uhf/vhf, satellite radio, FM radio, police scanner, uses integrated audio connections

for about $150.00. Then I'll be interested

Nice but id prefer it in an sd card for an HTC Universal

The MT2260 is sampling now with select handset manufacturers and will be priced at $5.00/unit

At these numbers for the chip I hope its significantly less than 150.00$

Measuring only 6 x 6-square millimeters

This low-power consumption enables mobile phone manufacturers to give viewers up to 10 hours of TV viewing time on 2-inch or 4-inch displays using 800mAh or 1300mAh

I am sure due to size and the refference to phone manufacturers this is more meant for full integration but I would not doubt it if an SD card version became available.

In all I think it would be great to have this in devices the funny part is the runtime on a 4 inch display..... It outlasts most every PPC's runtime I have seen :)

I'd absolutely be for this! For me, the more devices I can converge into one, the better. Now if only the HTC Universal had this.

I wouldn't mind an SD card solution, but only if PPC Phones had two SD slots, which they don't, so having this chip integrated would be the only way I'd want it, myself.

Very cool, though. 8)

It's certainly small enough to fit in an SD card, but I think this is intended to be an integrated solution instead. Someday though... 8)
