I don't mean to be Mr. Dark Cloud At The Picnic here... or maybe I do, but this app looked all interesting to me and something that might provide a small but usable feature to my pocket pc experience.

We're talking about a note taker. A passive app that only takes notes. On the Today Screen. But it just is a space to write notes.

It doesn't file, collate, spindle or even mutilate as far as I know. It just a clear place to write a note on and then you have to manually file it.

It's not a scheduler. It doesn't offer codecs for DVD for mp3 play. It won't teach you a foreign language. It doesn't read what you write and employ advanced AI routines to make scheduling or etiquette suggestions. It just takes notes!

Thirty bucks for a note-taker!? Somebody's ripped to the nips on booze and drugs. Please tell me... in any possible form how can this app be worth $30!????

kamikun, I would have clicked on the link had I not read your post. I'm still using the freeware Apmemo, and considering Phatpad. I think my money would be better spent on that.

Wow.. Whatever happened to good quality software for $5-$10? (or free) A lot of new software is coming out at quite a sizable price tag.. why? I wonder.. is it because of the high costs of distribution ? Is it so the developer can recoop cost of development environment?

The guys I have seen doing well in terms of sales and number of Downloads are the software priced in the &lt; $15 mark. If it costs more, then its usually a significant application.. ie. eWallet Pro etc. and maybe worth it.

Exactly. I pretty much stick to freeware when I can. I'm sure that eventually, market forces will stabilize software prices. Developers will realize that people just won't pay $30 without something to show for it.

The problem is that these guys probably didn't figure out going into it what the market would bear for pricing. What we need is developers who have a realistic understanding of pricing before they start a project, so they make something they can actually sell, and then go on to make something else, and on and on. Those with an unrealistic expectation of pricing most likely will never make the second product.

In an attempt to be more on the main topic, I really like NotesToday, for what it does. But what I would really like is something just like that, a small Today screen app, but with SIP-typed entry instead of (or in addition to) the drawing screen. I often want to make a quick note, but it is something I will want to transfer later to Notes or Word, so I might as well enter it in text from the start. Plus, sometimes I can't read my writing later. Does anyone know of such a utility as that?

For quick note taking I use CalcNote (http://www.inesoft.com/eng/index.php?in=calcnote). As it says it's a calculator combined with notes capabilities. The notes part (2 tiny icons switch between the 2 modes) can take handwritten or typed notes and saves in PWI file format. Both functions have a copy and paste feature. The calc part is tiny and you can move the window over another application. Tap the title bar and it reduces it as a small, moveable icon.

Don't be fooled by the site's screen shot that displays a tiny note window, it's resizeable and moveable too (not the calc window tho).
