While my ipaq is in the cradle, it works fine, but whenever I take it out, it resets every time it is powered off then back on. It also does a random reset (power off) for no appearent reason at random times. Battery shows 100% and backup shows 100%. When I say reset, I mean it takes all the info out and takes me back to the "Tap the screen to set up your Pocket PC" screen...align the stylus...cut...paste..."tap anywhere to begin"

Can anyone help me with this problem?

This sounds like a hardware problem. Maybe you have a loose battery connector etc? Can you induce a hard reset by shaking or tapping it?

Sorry, cant help you with hardware :( However at least you have identified the problem. You can send it back to HP for a repair, or if you are out of warranty maybe www.PPCtechs.com can help you. Alternatively if you are electronically inclined you may want to open it up yourself and see if there is anything obvious.

It may be a systematic problem. See here:

Loose connection for recharging iPAQ 5455

When I put my iPAQ 5455 (purchased over 2 years ago) in the cradle to synchronize with my computer, the synchronization happens, but the battery does not recharge; the orange light does not light up and if I check Power under Settingd on the iPAQ it does not show that the battery is being charged. When I plug the iPAQ into the separate cord for recharging (not sure I'm calling it the right thing but I think you know what I mean) I have to fiddle with the connection until I finally get a flashing orange light. Am I going to have to live with this situation while I continue to use this Pocket PC or can the situation be fixed? I am concerned that I may get to the point where not even plugging the iPAQ into the separate cord will work and then it will be impossible to recharge it.

I've had 2 5455 units. Both, within about 3 months of use, got to the
point where either the cable or the cradle pretty much will no longer
connect well enough to power the unit.

For example I have to lay the unit flat with the power cable connected,
and then place something under the cable a few inches away, to force the
connector to be pressured "up" a little bit, or it won't make a good
connection. And I have to jiggle it around quite a bit in the cradle to
hopefully get it to get a good connection - and then pray that it will
stay gainfully connected :-(

Now, I'm very gentle with these things when pushing in, or removing the
cable, or pushing the unit into the cradle. I never had this type of
problem with the 36xx, 37xx, 38xx, or 39xx that I had. The connection on
the 5455 just seemed "loose" compared to those from the time I got the
units. Makes me feel that the connector wasn't made as solidly as it was
in the earlier units.

Anyone else have this experience? Anyone know if the 555x connector is
made more solidly? The one in the 2215 *does* seem more solidly made,
similar to the earlier units. At least, it does to me.

Cheers,
Steve
