Hi. I have been reading a lot of X30 vs X50v threads and decided to go with X30H. I was able to get it for $202 with 20%off and $35 Conssesion coupon from dell.com. With all these coupons i could of gotten X50v for $290. Is it worth the extra money. My main use for the pda is gps, mp3s and reading books, i doubt that i will watch movies on it. Is vga screen that much better for reading books, or is it better to use that save cash and buy accessories. Today i saw the screen comparison of two screens on one of the review sites and vga looks much clearer. That really made me rethink the purchase. I still have a day until they ship it should i can upgrade it to x50v.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The x50v IS worth the price difference. The x50v is so much better (especially because of VGA), even for non-video-people. And, it'll receive the WM5 upgrade, unlike any of the x30 models. This alone is worth a lot, IMHO.

Hi hypnotic7, welcome to Pocket PC Thoughts. :)

I'd probably cancel the order and go with the X50v. For starters, the X30 series is being slowly phased out (actually, it has already been phased out in some countries such as Australia and some Asian countries). Once you see a VGA screen in the flesh, you'll never look back, and I think based on your needs, you'll come to appreciate the advantages the X50v has over the X30. In addition, the X50v has a CF slot, which will open up a whole new world of opportunities in card addons and microdrives. Also, the X50v is one of the few devices to be offered the new Windows Mobile 5 upgrade. In case you missed the news, visit the Archives and you'll find a billion articles on the topic. The new platform offers a host of enhancements that previous versions of Windows Mobile do not have.

With the Intel 2700G GPU, the X50v definitely has a much longer lifespan than the X30, and although it's an extra $80-$90, I'm sure it won't be a huge issue given how much better the X50v is over the X30.

Edit: And it looks like Menneisyys beat me to it. ;)

Thank you for the quick response!
i am still not decided because of the VGA screen and how much is that better then the regular screen. I am probably going to go to curcuit city now, and compare if they have a VGA unit on display. Hopefully then i would be to make a decision and dell will allow me to upgrade using the same coupons.

This forum is defenatly great resource thanks again for the input!

Well worth the difference.

I have the x50v and love it. I like having the CF and SD slots. I have a 2 gig SD & 2 gig CF. The great screen is "frosting" to an outstanding, stable unit. After most of the iPAQ's from 3600 to 5555, the Dell is the most stable unit I've ever had.

Never mind the screen (although it is really nice) the CF slot alone is worth the price difference. It will be quite some time before 4 and 6 GB SD memory cards become available especially at reasonable prices. So if you plan on music and movie usage a Pocket PC with a CF slot is the way to go.

You definately should get x50v! It is SO much better (like Darius said) and it will get WM5 ungrade. Believe me, VGA screen is just astounding.

Besides that, how did you get x50v so cheap? I REALLY, REALLY searched for one under $300, but i don't have any lucks at all.

You MUST MUST MUST tell us how you got it for such a low price! Where is this 20% off? And the concession? The dell site already gave me 20% off, but it was still $399, nowhere near the astounding $290 you got it for!

Did you have some sort of inside connection???

The closest I found was that Canadian deal a while back. I had even arranged a Canadian friend to buy it for me. But I misread and thought the offer was good for 10 days. So I dawdled, looking for a better deal. I am such a loser...
