Picture viewer - specific needs listed

I'm looking for an image viewer (primarily JPG) with the following requirements. I want to be able to view large images, specifically comic books. The few I've tried are missing one thing or another, I am hoping to find something that will do these simple things. (I am hoping Menneisyys gets to see this message)

1) use D-pad to scroll left,right,up, and down the image
2) use buttons to zoom in/zoom out
3) use buttons to move forward/backward to the next image
4) VGA

Resco Picture Viewer is close, but I can't configure how to make it to do the first requirement, which is the most important for me. Any suggestions?

If none exist, I'll make one. Can you recommend any open source image viewers?

First, welcome to the board and thanks for remembering me :)

I've quickly tested all the apps in this respect and found out that even the very few programs that support key reconfiguration don't support scrolling at all. You may wan tto contact the people at Resco to implement this - it'd be indeed pretty cool.

Menneisyys, thanks for the very detailed reply.

I've contacted Resco to ask for configurable D-pad based image panning and encourage others who are interested in the feature to do so.

To Resco development team:

In other words, I would like to use the D-pad to scroll left,right,up, and down the image

In conjuction with zoom in/zoom out, button-based image panning will make the viewing of large images (such as comic book pages) much more convenient.

How did you miss PQV (http://www.bitbanksoftware.com/PQV.html) by Larry Bank? I guess I better let more people know about this program. It's fell out of use with me since I got Resco for free with my dell but it's a great program. Where would I find a comic in jpeg format to test the d-pad scroll thing?

Oops, you're right - I've tested PQV (see http://menneisyys.freeweb.hu/PICVIEWERS ), but, when I compiled the list above (by just copying the relevant sections from my article to here), I've left out PQV. Here's the missing section:

Button-only control: reconfigurable (Options/Preferences/Buttons), both D-Pad and all buttons. All the available functionality can be invoked by a hardware button and, additionally, you can even define a different set of button assignments for fullscreen and thumbnail view and main window. Unfortunately, it doesn't support scrolling either.

Don't Panic, this is a sample page of a comic called Tenth Muse, published by Prism Press. They are previewing a few pages on their website.

This is a typical size of a comic book scan. If viewed on the Axim's VGA screen in portrait mode, you usually see a normal comic book panel on a page. One pan to the right gets you the right half of the page. Since text is sometimes hard to read, a zoom on demand would be nice.

I completely agree -- button-based scrolling is a feature that I would definitely like to see (preferrably in Resco Picture Viewer).

the HP Image Zone pre installed in some Ipaqs can do scrolling with hardware buttons.

Just don't know how to extract the software.

Welcome to PPCT :)

There're many apps for this. I've tested the following on-the-PDA apps on my QVGA HTC Wizard:

Resco, GetPDAScreen, Magic SS 1.1, XnView 1.31 and Epiphan Screen Grabber.

I've also tested Resco, GetPDAScreen and Magic SS 1.1 on my VGA x51v. Resco and Magic SS is VGA-compliant. GetPDAScreen isn't VGA compliant.
