Does anyone know when the first device with WM 5 will be shipped? Also, when will the upgrades for x50 series be officially available and how much it will cost? I'm wondering whether I should buy a new device right now.

The HTC Universal was the first WM5 device to be unveiled and they say that it'll begin shipping in the second half of this year. Personally, I'm expecting more towards Q4 than Q3.

Also, when will the upgrades for x50 series be officially available and how much it will cost?

They'll be available in the third quarter of this year. Cost is still an uncertainty.

I'm wondering whether I should buy a new device right now.

It sounds like you have your heart set on the X50v? Personally, I think it's a solid choice, and with the WM5 upgrade on the roadmap, it'll be future-proofed for at least a couple more years I imagine. And its specs certainly aren't droll either.

Actually, I've my heart set on x50 512mhz. I'm looking for a Pocket PC ranges from $200-$350 that can be upgraded to WM 5. 412 mhz version is nice, but it only has 64 MB of ROM, which will be a problem with WM 5.

Thanks for your generous help and suggestions!

Definitely a great choice if VGA is outside your price range. A friend of mine just bought the X50 (512MHz) and he's never been happier. :)

I'm trying to find one under $300. Though, I don't have any luck yet.

Keep your eye on the outlet section of Dell.com for refurbished Axims. You can find models there that have a Dell warranty and at prices that can be very good. At the moment, they are offering a 15% discount on their refurbed Axim inventory, but that's only until May 18.

64MB of ROM is not a problem for Windows Mobile 5.0 -HP is going to release an upgrade to the new OS for the iPaq that I use (the hx210) and it only has 64MB of ROM...

It seems that the last PDA that each company released is getting the upgrade with "older" models being phased out.

I reviewed the hx2410 here (http://www.dalantech.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/74606/an/0/page/0#74606).

If I'm correct, the operation system itself takes up more than half of the ROM. A device with only 30 mb of memory is not very efficient.

Then maybe they should drop the lower end hx2000 series devices and upgrade my rx3715 with 128MB ROM. :?

True!! I wonder why HP does "ridiculous" things like this.  Why do they offer upgrade for lower end hx2000 series (64 MB of ROM ONLY) and not rx3715 anyway? For me, 62 mb of memory on my Acer is barely enough. It's absolutely unthinkable of have less than 30mb of memory.

I wonder myself, but that's about all I can do in these types of situations.
