View Full Version : Storage card data wiped out

This morning I woke up to find an error from Sprite PocketBackup saying that there wasn't enough space to create a backup file for the daily backup.

I took this for the occasional times I've seen this error - when the storage card didn't initialize properly or something like that.

What I found is that the entire card was wiped clean - not a single bit of data was there anymore. It's a 246Mb card and it was about half full.

Without resetting I tried copying a file to the storage card and there wasn't any problem at all doing so - so the storage card could be accessed.

It appears something formatted the entire storage card.

What causes this? Should I submit a report to Sprite software about this? That's the only app that I can think of that did anything that would affect this.

I got a similar error with a CF MicroDrive one time - not using Sprite backup though, just under normal use. Go ahead and post a report, but it may be some other glitch with PPC, for instance.

Meantime, before you gat carried away overwriting your SD card you should be able to find tools that will let you recover your data from the SD card. Unless there was a bit-by-bit erasure, the original data should still be on the SD card.

When you said that all data are wiped out, do you mean that the occupied storage space showed in Memory became 0 MB?

I had some problems like this in the past, but CHKDSK fixed the card and recovered the files I lost. Also, i don't think that the problem has anything to do with Sprite Backup.

Right - I downloaded a couple storage tools apps trials and they all showed the occupied storage to be 0MB.

Thanks Menneisyys for the suggestion. I'll have to take a look at that app. Fortunately I didn't have a great deal of data on the storage card so I didn't lose anything important or anything I didn't have a backup of - so I ended up re-installing the apps I had on it anyways.

I'm getting a card reader so at least if this happens in the future I can use Chkdsk to try to fix it too.

Thanks everyone for your help and posts!!! :)
