Hi. Activesync is taking longer and longer to boot up. The problem seems to be coming from my PDA (HP iPAQ H2200 running on Windows CE 4.20). What's happening? And, how to I fix it?

I don't know, you haven't given a lot of info to go on. but esentually, you need to fault find to figure out what the culprit is. The following is a list of things to try. They are in no particular order, I generally do the easy ones first & move up to the harder stuff.
When was the last time you did a software reset on the ppc?
I find that gunk builds up in the ppc usb socket really easily, so try wiggling the cable around in it's socket to scratch a new connection through.
try the cable in a different USB socket on the PC.
are you running a firewall? they often see this as a network connection & may be slowing it down. try turning the firewall off then connecting
I don't know if you can get a connection while in safe mode for windows, but try that. To get to safe mode, turn the PC off, then turn it back on & hit the F8 key repeatedly untill you get the safe mode menu. There are several different choices try all the ones that load windows. The command prompt wont help with this one.
Try connecting with outlook running, then with it not running, see if there is a difference. when it isn't running, make sure you press the CTRL ALT DEL buttons alltogeather & make sure the outlook process is not running.
are you running the latest version of activesync?
try uninstalling & reinstalling activesync & outlook (or just reinstalling for activesync, since you cant remove it). Make sure you backup your outlook data first. in outlook: file>import and export>export to a file>personal folder file (.pst)>select your main folder>include subfolders checkbox>select a location for the file>save it.
Do you run more than one sync program? Like Mobipocket reader, avantgo, etc. If they are all working at once, they will slow it down.

Hi Uzetaab. Thanks for posting a reply. I appreciate your help.
I think the culprit is my PDA. It locks up when I hook up the USB cable and then frees up when ActiveSync on my PC starts to recognize the connection.
Once a week I do a soft reset of the PDA. I never did a hard reset though. I will loose all data and some programs with a hard reset right? Is it necessary to periodically to do a hard reset?
I just tried wiggling the PDA USB connection but that does not seem to have helped with the boot up speed.
I am running ActiveSync ver 3.7. This version was working fine. When I started using it, the boot up time was pretty quick. I just noticed that since then, the boot up time is getting longer and longer.
I am running only ActiveSync and none of the other programs you mentioned.
I will try your other suggestions.
Again, many thanks for your post.

Hi Uzetaab. The problem got worse. I did a hard reset and that fixed the problem. Thanks.
